    and the West and jointly discussed the possibility of international partnerships that are facilitating new research collaborations manufacturing financing and projects in the CSP industry in China and elsewhere The event was kicked off by Shi Dinghuan a Counselor to the State Council former Secretary General of China s Ministry of Science and Technology MOST and the Chairman of the China Renewable Energy Society CRES One of the China s top energy decisionmakers Shi provided an overview of the efforts by CRES NDRC and other leading institutions to shape and grow the domestic renewable energy market in China Shi s keynote presentation was followed by a series of panel discussions about different CSP technologies being developed in China and elsewhere parabolic trough power tower and linear fresnel After China based equipment manufacturers described their capacity to produce such technologies major utilities including Huaneng and Hong Kong Electric outlined their interests and requirements with respect to CSP deployment The Roundtable concluded with a trip to the Chinese Academy of Sciences Ba Da Ling 1 5MW pilot CSP facility The project is highly cooperative enterprise MOST CAS and the Beijing Science and Technology Commission have jointly funded and constructed the facility with
