    Garden Manager where she oversaw a 1 2 acre demonstration garden and continues to serve as Treasurer for the organization Currently she is attending Golden Gate University in San Francisco to prepare for the CPA exam Nathan Harkleroad Ag Education Program Manager Nathan came to ALBA in March 2010 from San Luis Obispo where he worked as the manager of the Cal Poly Orgaic Farm s permaculture site the primary focus of which was education and growing specialty crops to support a 300 member year round CSA While there he also earned an M S in Agriculture emphasis Crop Science with research on organic no till vegetable production Prior to that he was the assistant production manager of a 5 acre biodynamic farm in Scotland that grew mixed vegetables and pastured laying hens Nathan grew up in the city of San Diego and is truly excited to be working for an organization that strives to bring more people into organic agriculture and improve access to safe and healthy foods He lives with his wife Maria and son Oliver Kaley Grimland Mendoza Business Enterprise Development Specialist thrives working to bring back and maintain ecosystems to a socially just food system Kaley started as an independent contractor at ALBA in February 2009 as the Triple M Wetlands Restoration Project Manager after completing a MA in International Environmental Policy Concurrently over the next four years she developed and implemented ALBA s Food Safety Program leading all ALBA tenant farmers to food safety certification Her work providing multi faceted technical assistance to small farmers has expanded to include organic certification business development marketing and environmental education Encompassing these topics Kaley is now ALBA s Business Enterprise Development Specialist Kaley holds a MA in International Environmental Policy focusing on sustainable agriculture and rural development and

    behalf of disadvantaged communities Horacio provides vital Salinas Valley production experience to help guide ALBA s work on behalf of aspiring and beginning farmers Dan Beck Vice Chair Dan Beck is an accomplished artist and musician as well as the proprietor of Outhouse Studios in Salinas He has been creating art as long as he can remember Up until fairly recently he worked full time in the organic produce industry yet continued to create and sell art work during this time Dan was born in Indianapolis IN He is a graduate of Swarthmore College with a BA in Philosophy His formal art education includes Oil Painting Drawing Sculpture Lithography and Art History As an Organic Produce Industry Veteran Dan has much knowledge and passion to contribute to ALBA Dan joined the ALBA Board of Directors in March 2011 Cary Neiman Treasurer Cary is a real estate investor who lives in Carmel Valley California He was a founding partner of Hawthorn Realty Group in Chicago a firm active in the ownership and development of industrial parks shopping centers and office buildings In 1985 he co founded Huron Partners and Coastal Hotel Group Inc companies focused on the development and management of boutique resorts throughout the United States Among the Huron Coastal portfolios were the Highlands Inn Carmel California The Hotel Jerome in Aspen Colorado and the Cheeca Lodge in the Florida Keys He has previously served as President of the Board of Directors of the Lincoln Park Chicago Boy Scouts of America and as President of the Chicago Chapter of the Yale University Alumni Schools Committee He has also been a member of the Yale University Development Board Since moving to California in 1999 he has served on the boards of the International School of Monterey California Coastal Rural Development Corporation and Neighborhood Housing Services of Silicon Valley He is currently a Life Trustee of Choate Rosemary Hall having served as Chair of the Board of Trustees He is also a member of the International Board of Advisors of the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies a graduate school of Middlebury College Cary has a B S degree in Engineering and Applied Sciences from Yale University Paul Moncrief A 1989 graduate of Salinas High School Paul attended the University of California Santa Barbara where he obtained bachelor s degrees in Spanish and Law and Society He also obtained a master s degree from UCSB in Latin American Studies with emphases in Mexican history and political science While in graduate school Paul studied politics in the Mexican state of Guanajuato focusing on the administration of then governor Vicente Fox His master s thesis published in 1997 predicted Fox s victory in the 2000 Mexican presidential election Paul earned his law degree from UC Davis in 1999 During law school he clerked in the legal department of the California Department of Food Agriculture and served as Editor in Chief of the UC Davis Journal of International
