    replenished and prepared to fulfil our duties to the very best of our abilities and serve the Lord in the life he has chosen for us It s not all prayer and silence here at All Hallows we like to have some fun We have monthly community days out together and renew bonds enjoying a short recreational period together each day and meeting regularly to discern our future to share our thoughts and feelings and to support each other in all we do We commemorate our patronal festival All Hallows or All Saints Day annually and we invite our extended family our Friends Contact Members Associates Oblates and Companions to all come together for worship and fellowship We have a sale after lunch selling our produce honey home baked bread and cakes our handmade cards and other goods that have been donated to us The money raised on the day is split between two charities Learn about our founderess and history Find out more about joining our community Our working life Our days are punctuated by the rhythm of prayer and work as we go from one to another Daily work routines differ for each Sister Some are involved in hospitality others provide individually guided retreats and spiritual direction We give talks about All Hallows to groups within the community we make pastoral visits to All Hallows Healthcare hospital and nursing home We write letters of support and encouragement to those in captivity letters of injustice to politicians and government leaders and letters of friendship to orphaned children we have adopted in third world countries This coupled with domestic chores bee keeping and gardening keeps us quite busy Welcome has always been an important part of the All Hallows ethos We open up our hearts and home to those in

    We are occasionally asked to lead your quiet days or to provide input throughout the day which we are very happy to do If you are interested in this please mention it when you first book so we can arrange your visit for a date a retreat leader is available We would also be pleased to travel to your Parish to lead a retreat Our Teach us to Pray workshop is a very popular choice We frequently attend WI groups clubs and schools to talk about our Community and our life as a Sister at All Hallows Please contact us to discuss this As well as leading group retreats we can provide an individually guided retreat to guests staying in our retreat house We also offer a spiritual direction service Quiet days All Hallows also organise a programme of retreats throughout the year These run on Saturdays about once a month from 10am until 4pm and cost 12 These quiet days are led by Sisters and our close associates and friends We always include a Lent and an Advent quiet day in our programme and offer singing workshops praying workshops and development days amongst other topics We are running a

    back looks over the church garden and the shrine of Julian of Norwich Next door the Julian Centre houses an extensive spiritual library There are also cards books and other items for sale The house caters for visitors requiring bed breakfast and an evening meal To ensure the smooth running of the house All Hallows will be closed from Wednesday evenings until Friday mornings Lavinia House Ditchingham Lavinia House is set in the gardens of All Hallows Convent surrounded by farmland It is suitable for individuals or small groups Our wish is to provide our guests with the opportunity of a calm peaceful and restful atmosphere Guests may be residential for short breaks or may come as day visitors The house offers a large and small sitting room the latter being used as a quiet room for those on silent retreat In the larger sitting room books and a television are provided for relaxation The house has its own spacious garden There is a dining room and a large kitchen It is possible for guests to be either self catering or full board during their stay Guests are welcome to join the Sisters for their midday meal at 12 30 pm Food is provided in the Lavinia House kitchen and guests are asked to prepare their breakfast and supper at a time of their choosing The house has two ground floor bedrooms and three singles one twin bedded and one double room on the first floor Following a recent refurbishment all bedrooms are now en suite We are pleased and excited to announce the opening of a poutinia indoor hermitage within Lavinia House This spacious first floor self contained flat is available for those seeking complete solitude during their stay The Convent chapel is within walking distance of the house

    both sides However a true vocation to the religious life enables an individual to deepen their commitment and love for God while enabling them to serve Christ in one another and love as He loves us For women that feel a stronger calling to a life of prayer and worship may wish to join the Community The path to full membership is prayerfully discerned Companion The deep felt desire of communities to be for God is expressed nowadays in a multitude of different strands within our basic tapestries Companions of All Hallows are the latest such strand for us the first exploring this life in October 2008 With the Sisters Companions try to live a life of loving closeness to God and to His world in prayer and in the work He calls the Community to undertake If you are seeking to live a God centred life in a deeply committed cheerful and accepting monastic context then this way of doing it might appeal to you We welcome all serious enquiries from those with the maturity to embrace such a li fe Associate In 1868 Mother Lavinia founded the Associates for women who would like to be associated with the Community of All Hallows in work and prayer Membership is also open to men Associates have a simple Rule of life and there is a year s trial before an Associate is admitted to full membership Associates have a daily rule of prayer Bible reading and Spiritual reading and are asked to attend the Eucharist on Sundays and the greater festivals We have an Associates Day held at the Convent each year and an annual Associate Quiet Day Associates are welcome to stay at the Community whenever they can There is also a newsletter at least three times a year so that Associates can keep up to date with news and events For further guidance on how to become an Associate please con tact us Oblate There is a great desire for people to feel they belong and to seek for places which offer this and stability in a changing world All Hallows Community has a core of Sisters vowed to live the 3 fold vow in Community a stable core which has existed for over 150 years In the 1990s some felt a call to a close connection with the Community but were unable to become professed members In a desire to fulfil a part in and contribute to the life of the Sisters they became part of the extended family They take promises yearly live under the rule adapted to their home and work circumstances share in the worship and daily Offices and often give valuable service to the Community The sisters value the Oblates commitment their strong prayer life and their individual personalities All saints are so varied and so are our Oblates and we are very grateful for their dedication which reinforces our own To become an Oblate write to or e mail the Joint Leaders

    to see a film at Sneaton Castle a documentary about the life of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies He was actually there and at the concert I went to in the evening with some of the Sisters in the church at Robin Hood s Bay Some of his music formed part of the programme I ve been wondering how its been for you all this week both those in retreat at Clare and those who ve held the fort back home You have all been very much in my imagination thoughts and prayers Just after I last wrote to you I went with a couple of Sisters and another guest to the Egton Show It s a smaller version of the Norfolk Show and takes place on huge fields rather than a show ground There were hundreds of people there and fortunately the rain which seemed to be threatening didn t descend to water the earth and us There were lots of things on display animals flowers fruit and vegetables all kinds of craft work farm equipment clothes and food glorious food There were numerous refreshment venues and as at the Norfolk Show a Church Tent Most of the things on sale seemed quite expensive to me but I did treat myself to a chocolate brownie with which I celebrated St Bartholomew On the Thursday evening I went to another concert This one was in the Priory Chapel and of the three I went to it was my favourite and the seats were definitely more comfortable I went there again for Mass on Sunday and we stayed on for coffee and lunch The latter included a Posh Pud which was made up of ice cream with a biscuity top and bottom with bits of ginger in There was an assortment of summer fruits to go with it Delicious This week has been pretty ordinary apart from a trip to Pickering with Joyce who is an OHP Tertiary staying in the room Ulrike was in We went on Wednesday which was the Beheading of John the Baptist That was one of the scenes depicted in all its gory detail in the wall paintings in the Church It was a lovely afternoon with glorious views over the Moors en route I ve just had a weekend retreat with Thomas Merton and Nature Actually it wasn t a retreat more a kind of workshop with input and activities to do in twos and small groups It was interesting and refreshed my knowledge of Merton I read a couple of Merton books beforehand and I ve brought one from home to follow it up over the next week We had an absolute downpour on Friday I woke to the sound of rain and it continued fairly steadily all day Then late afternoon just when the retreatants were arriving it really poured I now know what people mean by stair rods When I tried to go my usual way into the main house it was flooded

    going concern to The Benjamin Foundation www benjaminfoundation co uk The nursery provides care and early years education for local children and enjoys a good reputation with parents and professionals alike This was confirmed by the rating of Good received in an unannounced OFSTED inspection in January 2010 The nursery has been granted a further 7 year lease by CCT who now own the building It is hoped that new premises will be sought in the local area by the Benjamin Foundation to continue this activity after 2118 Christian conference Trust CCT From November 2009 the conference centre formally known as St Gabriel s was taken over by the Christian Conference Trust www cct org uk following a review of the Centre s operation and the prospects for its future CCT have considerable experience and expertise in operating conference facilities and the newly renamed Belsey Bridge Conference Centre complements their existing centres at the Hayes in Derbyshire and High Leigh in Hertfordshire All Hallows Healthcare Trust From April 2009 the hospital and nursing home became the responsibility of All Hallows Healthcare Trust a new separate charity benefiting from a number of Trustees experienced in the medical field www all hallows org uk The Community remains the freeholder owner of both the hospital and nursing home premises Friends of Julian of Norwich The Friends of Julian of Norwich is an association of people who have been inspired by the spiritual legacy of the medieval mystic and writer Julian of Norwich Its purpose is to encourage interest in Julian s life and work We do this through facilitating a prayer network carrying out educational initiatives and by offering guidance and resources for visitors to the Julian Shrine We have a special links with the Friends of Julian and operate a retreat house
