    THAT BRINGS TOGETHER DESIGN LEADERS AND CREATIVE THINKERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD THIS YEAR A D MUSEUM CELEBRATED OUR NEW HOME IN THE DOWNTOWN ARTS DISTRICT WITH CELEBRATE SHELTER Celebrate Gala 2015 WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE OUR RETURN TO OUR DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES ROOTS WITH OUR 5TH ANNUAL FUNDRAISER CELEBRATE SHELTER JUNE 27 2015 900 E 4th Street 7 00PM to 11 00PM SHELTER celebrated the belief that a well designed habitat creatively and functionally expresses its relationship to site neighbor and occupant Celebrate Shelter was our grand re opening in our new home a ware house turned museum in DTLA s burgeoning Arts District The centerpiece of the evening was a silent auction of custom designed shelters created by architecture and design luminaries installed exhibit style in the new space All pieces were donated and auctioned off with 100 of proceeds benefitting the museum Guests were treated to premier cuisine cocktails music and much more while bidding on one of a kind works and on theme items to grace and invigorate their own shelters Emcee and actor Boise Thomas returned as the evening s host SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR CELEBRATE 2015 SPONSORS PENTHOUSE 50 000 All Coast Construction

    SHELTER RETHINKING HOW WE LIVE IN LOS ANGELES August 20 2015 to November 6 2015 On August 20 2015 A D Museum presented Shelter Rethinking How We Live in Los Angeles featuring the imaginative work of Los Angeles based architecture and design practices Bureau Spectacular LA Más Lorcan O Herlihy Architects MAD Architects PAR and wHY On August 20 2015 A D Museum presented Shelter Rethinking How We Live in Los Angeles featuring the imaginative work of Los Angeles based architecture and design practices Bureau Spectacular LA Más Lorcan O Herlihy Architects MAD Architects PAR and wHY The inaugural exhibition at A D s new home in the Los Angeles Arts District Shelter challenged these architects and designers to create new residential solutions responding to the city s increasing density decreasing buildable land new transit offerings growing diversity ballooning costs and intense environmental challenges To engage these conditions Shelter participants created single or multi family plans for a stretch of the Wilshire Corridor or along the Los Angeles River exploring fresh new inspirations for L A s diverse housing typologies Shelter Rethinking How We Live in Los Angeles was organized by A D Architecture and Design Museum Los Angeles and

  • Peter Shire: Public Work, Lines of Desire - A+D Architecture and Design Museum
    private architectural commissions PUBLIC WORK LINES OF DESIRE was the first exhibition to focus exclusively on L A based artist Peter Shire s public and private architectural commissions Executed over the course of three decades the architectural works demonstrate Shire s understanding of the formal principles of twentieth century art and architecture collided with his interrogations of popular culture and the vocabulary of visual design Plying graphic forms and structural geometry with radically saturated colors Shire s architectural constructions are high voltage improvisations of artistic legacy and traditional architectural platforms The resulting works exuberantly transform space and environment The exhibition charted Shire s commissions from his first public entry in the 1984 Olympics Los Angeles to a 1990 sculptural installation commissioned by Sapporo Corporation Hokkaido Japan to the most recent 2012 River Park Ventura County public art installation This creative journey highlights architectural models and sculptural elements ideation sketches finished drawings and paintings and varied objects of inspiration that have functioned as source material and propelled shire s imagistic installations Spanning a career of path breaking interventions and showcasing Shire s cross disciplinary approach to materials and art categories the architectural commissions exalt the blending of fine and applied art

    its COME IN series with COME IN S M L XLA an exhibition exploring the vast diversity of scale used by emerging L A designers in all disciplines Historically Los Angeles as a city has been a site of inspiration and exploration for architects and designers alike The city has been developed around and defined by a variety of large scale urban planning projects as well as medium and smaller sized residential and public work including housing product design and technological innovations Through these various architecture and design projects the city has nurtured experimental pursuits and critical inquiry and today it continues to expand in the contemporaneous city Projects are currently being developed at various scales all over L A from miniscule to monumental and everything in between Small Medium Large Extra Large Los Angeles takes Rem Koolhaas and Bruce Mau s seminal text as a departure point and more importantly an organizing principle to examine the production and discourse of architecture and design within today s city of L A Bringing coherence to the body of work of an emergent group of Los Angeles based designers that span across disciplines from architecture and graphics to digital media and sound

    COLLECTION February 21 2014 to March 26 2014 More than 90 years after Richard Neutra immigrated from Europe to America his California furniture designs created from the late 1920s to the early 1940s returned to the U S More than 90 years after Richard Neutra immigrated from Europe to America his California furniture designs created from the late 1920s to the early 1940s have returned to the U S In cooperation with architect Dion Neutra Richard s son and architectural partner The Neutra Collection by VS was made ready for discovery by the architecture and design community a community that appreciates the designs of the modern classics but for whom Neutra s designs may be fresh and new The diversity of Neutra s work in furniture required great care as each individual piece possessed a different character and therefore different craft and manufacturing requirements VS began its work with meticulous archival research and careful documentation of every detail for each member of the Collection Prototyping testing and selection of genuine materials and the selection of a wide variety of Luxe fabrics followed The result is an elite collection of lounge chairs cantilevered chairs and side tables included the iconic Boomerang
