    supply system and ensuring secure and reliable delivery The Chattahoochee River is the source of raw water for the entire Metro Atlanta The path of the new conveyance system will follow closely the path of the current cast iron lines The new five mile conveyance will end at a quarry site that will be transformed into a new water storage facility It will be designed to meet the current withdrawal permit limits and store any excess water not used for daily drinking water Once filled this facility will hold 2 4 billion gallons of water to provide the City a 30 day backup water supply The program design will address the objectives of achieving 100 years of asset lifecycle and flexibility in system operations The estimated cost of design and construction for conveyance and water storage is approximately 280M LEADERSHIP Kasim Reed Mayor Jo Ann J Macrina Commissioner On November 20 2014 the City of Atlanta held an industry forum to introduce the new Water Supply Program The Water Supply Program reflects Mayor Kasim Reed s emphasis on securing Atlanta s water supply for the next 100 years The Department of Watershed Management delivered this program which included the following main components Conversion of the Bellwood Quarry into a 2 4 billion gallon water storage facility Construction of a 10 foot diameter tunnel that is over 5 miles long to connect the new water storage facility Hemphill WTP Chattahoochee WTP and the Chattahoochee River intake Installation of pump stations and associated vertical shafts flow control devices and instrumentation and control systems Related documents from this event are below DWM Industry Day Sign in Sheet pdf DWM Industry Day Business Cards pdf Request For Proposal FC 7888 Construction Manager at Risk for the Water Supply Program Media Links Work at Bellwood

    compliance with the requirements of a federal consent decree It can detain flows from a 100 year storm event Project Description The project involved construction of a nine million gallon stormwater detention pond that captures stormwater runoff from a drainage area of approximately 800 acres in the Clear Creek basin It provides peak flow attenuation to the Highland Combined Sewer Trunk and capacity relief to the overall Clear Creek Combined Sewer Basin The original design of the project called for the construction of an underground conveyance tunnel at an estimated price tag of 40 million The stormwater pond was constructed for about 14 million creating a savings of approximately 26 million It also created a functional creative and sustainable feature for the neighborhood Sustainable engineering components incorporated into the project included native landscaping energy efficient lighting recycled granite boulders from the Bellwood Quarry recycled stone wall seating and the planting of 300 caliper inches of landscaping to replace the 195 caliper inches removed during construction Project Location The Clear Creek Combined Sewer Capacity Relief Project is located one block south of the former City Hall East Sears building and is bordered by North Avenue to the north Rankin Street to
