    incorporate environmentally sound engineering best practices into stormwater management The City s goal is to reduce runoff by 225 million gallons annually The Green Infrastructure Strategic Action Plan aligns with Mayor Kasim Reed s goal of making Atlanta a top tier city in sustainability says Watershed Management Commissioner Jo Ann Macrina We are excited to work together with other departments and partners to break down policy funding and institutional barriers to incorporating green infrastructure into many of the City s public infrastructure projects Green infrastructure provides an alternative to traditional pipe replacement by incorporating elements designed to mimic nature to more effectively manage urban stormwater and reduce flooding erosion and sewer overflows In addition to increased capacity relief green infrastructure provides significant community amenities and enhancements The Green Infrastructure Task Force consists of staff from the departments of Watershed Management Aviation Planning and Community Development Public Works Parks and the Office of Sustainability in addition to several partner organizations including The Conservation Fund American Rivers InvestAtlanta and Atlanta BeltLine Inc Atlanta has emerged as a leader in green infrastructure through the successful adoption of the nation s most far reaching post development stormwater ordinance and the completion of the 2

    Sheet Frequently Asked Questions Why is the City doing this The City has identified a number of aging and deteriorating water mains in the system These pipes are being replaced with new ones to improve water supply and water quality to customers How long will this go on What are the work hours The duration for construction in each project area is 1 year work on individual streets may range between four 4 and ten 10 weeks The allowable working hours are from 7 a m to 7 p m However depending on the location the time frame may be shorter Will my water be turned off And if so how long Will this work disrupt fire protection Yes The Department will notify you 24 hours in advance of a disconnection The water will be off at least twice once to connect the new water main to the distribution system and once to transfer your service line to the new main The only time the fire protection will be affected is when the new main is placed in service There should be a minimum 2 hour shutoff of the water service when the pipe is transferred Will I need to
