  • Taking a Risk! | National Automobile Museum
listening felt like they d lived through these things with me The more I worried I was taking a risk with a story because it was too emotional too provocative or just too nuts the more the audience lit up In August of 2009 host Kevin and producer Michelle Walson started the live show RISK where people tell true stories they never thought they d dare to share in public at Arlene s Grocery on the Lower East Side of Manhattan It was an instant hit Stories ran the gamut from the sacred to the profane the hilarious to the horrific and for the audience it was a chance to re connect with the things that make us human It s still just about the most cathartic laugh out loud anything goes kind of smorgasbord you re likely to see anywhere Many remarkable people have shown a side of themselves on RISK that you probably haven t seen elsewhere like Michael Ian Black Janeane Garofalo R Ben Garant Lisa Lampanelli Kevin Nealon Margaret Cho Marc Maron Sarah Silverman Michael Showalter Maria Bamford Nick Swardson Lili Taylor Adam McKay Rachel Dratch Andy Borowitz Kerri Kenney Silver Joe LoTruglio and more The audio podcast of RISK also hosted by Kevin Allison premiered online in October of 2009 The podcast includes not just the best stories from the live shows but also radio style stories and interstitial music and comedy from artists all over the world Most episodes of the show are free and easy to download from iTunes and other sources With new episodes released each Thursday the RISK podcast is the winner of the 2010 ECNY Award for Best Podcast and has seen over 10 million downloads to date In 2010 the RISK live show series went bi coastal In 2011

gaggle of dance hall floozies They need to get with it and be more modern Seriously what should these gals be wearing in the jazz age Signed Vexed in Verdi Dec 1939 Dear V V As you know we are in the very height of art deco fashion these days I hate to sound all flinty here but it looks like these girls raided their grandmother s travel chest or took the wrong message from seeing Gone with the Wind down at the movie house last month If you can get them to cast off their casket liners and go throughly modern the world will be a better place Have a look at these flattering fashions from Paris Sleek streamlined and aerodynamic are the order of the day Times are tough now and there are world political problems that threaten to darken the horizon still there is no excuse for traipsing about wrapped in antebellum window dressing Signed Gabrielle Explore More 2016 Raffle Car Friday November 6 2015 2015 Raffle Car Winner Ticket 054713 Thursday November 5 2015 25th Annual Trick or Treat in the Streets of the Museum Wednesday October 7 2015 Denim Cool Rags and Rides Wednesday August

  • Trick or Treat in the Streets of the Museum | National Automobile Museum
team was the 1937 Airmobile Its bright pumpkin livery was festive and cheerful Just look at that happy face and those tail fins Why it can be just one character it s Nemo from the Disney movie of the same name Seems the little fish is very well represented by the Airmobile On the dark and sinister side there was the Phantom Corsair What would you expect with a name like Phantom Actually the Phantom has been out of character more than once Ever see the motion picture The Flying Wombat One guess who was the Wombat On closer inspection the Phantom would be a good dobbelganger for a horseshoe crab honest See the resemblance What is the Phantom s real wish It wants to be a Batmobile for Halloween Not just any Batmobile but one of the earliest creations of the cartoonists who created the masked hero from Gotham city A little polish and some imagination and I think the Phantom could pull it off Stop by Halloween night with your little ghouls and gobblins and see if the transformations work for you too Flat Tire Jack Editorial note Our Trick or Treats in the Streets of the Automobile

  • The Henrys - Ford and Leland | National Automobile Museum
earned the reputation of quality construction and won the famous Dewar Trophy in 1908 by demonstrating this interchangeability of parts That success encouraged General Motors to acquire Cadillac Leland left General Motors in a dispute with William C Durant over GM s WW1 production strategies Free of his responsibilities Leland produced Liberty aircraft engines at his newly formed Lincoln Motor Company After the war production of luxury V8 automobiles began Leland would apply the rigors of precision manufacturing interchangeability and top quality to produce high end cars at a high cost Enter Mr Henry Ford Things were not static over at the Ford Motorcar Company Henry was busy building a brand and developing the next success And what a success it was The Model T was the home run future auto buyers were hoping for good quality inexpensive compared to premium brands such as Lincoln would become easy to operate and cheap to repair Henry was able to reduce costs while improving quality in part to Leland s manufacturing disciplines Here is where we connect that illusive 500 car A P Brush was able to market Mr Brush offered a basic runabout buggy in limited production for several years but it was Ford who delivered the Everyman s Car in spades By 1916 the basic Ford touring car was selling for only 360 Hundreds of thousands of units were being produced each year Model T sales volume drove costs down and generated vast amounts of capital It was this capital that will close the loop on the remainder of our story Seems Mr Leland s Lincoln Motor Company while turning out cars of the highest quality were expensive perhaps too expensive for Henry Leland and son Wilfred In 1922 Mr Ford returned the favor delivered by Leland at Cadillac Ford
