  • Location
kingdom of the Spains became the geopolitical center of the then flourishing Spanish empire Christopher Columbus Miguel de Cervantes and many other celebrities of the time used to live in Valladolid For those interested in late Medieval early Renaissance European history and politics the city of Valladolid is a treasure awaiting to be discovered Present day Valladolid city can be surfed on here http asomateavalladolid org Transportation Valladolid is located some 200 Km northwest of Madrid Both cities are connected by freeway A 6 up to Tordesillas then take A 62 East to Valladolid It takes approximately 2 h to get from one city to another Departing from Madrid Valladolid can also easily be reached by public transportation either train or bus We recommend the former In working days no less than twelve trains connect Madrid with Valladolid both ways High speed rail transport AVE in Spanish was introduced in December 2007 Using the AVE moving in between the two cities barely takes 50 min which is certainly remarkable Once in the Valladolid Train Station called Valladolid Campo Grande the best way to get to the IBGM is by catching a taxicab Trip is short and fairly inexpensive The Institute is only at a 20 min walk distance from the train station However if not familiar with Valladolid walking is not recommended as this is quite a rambling town Valladolid also has an international airport situated some 10 km west in the municipality of Villanubla Although Villanubla Airport is very small flights to Paris London Brussels and Barcelona are scheduled on a daily basis In addition there are flights to quite a bunch of destinations on alternate days Hotels Below is a list of hotels situated reasonably close to the IBGM Please note that although Valladolid is not particularly expensive
