to 3 000 The amount of QE money unveiled yesterday by the ECB could alternatively fund a 2100 annual cheque to all residents of the eurozone Such a policy could be a pragmatic direct pathway towards an unconditional basic income for all in the eurozone It would set a precedent UBI Europe s coordinator Stanislas Jourdan said Where citizens can be counted on to spend banks have not shown with previous QE programmes that they can be counted on to lend Quantitative Easing for the People would not violate EU Treaties As opposed to having the ECB financing governments and public entities handing cash directly to the citizens is not explicitly prohibited by the EU Treaties Thomas Fazi explained Moreover such a program would be far more protective of the independence of the ECB By targeting the quantitative easing money to all citizens without distinction the institution could not be blamed for interfering with governments About Unconditional Basic Income Europe has written 1 articles Unconditional Basic Income Europe UBI Europe is an alliance of citizens and organisations pushing for basic income everywhere in Europe View all posts by Unconditional Basic Income Europe Blog Twitter Facebook Follow One comment Europe QE for People UBI Europe One comment Matthew McKenna March 4 2015 at 6 03 pm Has anyone come across the proposal for monetary reform suggested by the blogger Malcolm Henry His very coherent vision includes a Basic Income funded by a negative interest rate in a comprehensive system which he calls the Common Cashflow Fund http malcolmhenry com Reply Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Name Email Website Comment Sign me up for the newsletter Opinions Reviews Interview with Zoltan Istvan US presidential candidate in support of basic income February 12 2016 No comments Scott Santens basic income log the importance of security February 5 2016 No comments Towards a Universal Basic Income in France elements for a debate February 1 2016 No comments From the web Ian Sparks and Andy Lines Switzerland government plans to give all adults 425 a week to end poverty Italy Campaign in Campania seeks ten thousand signatures for basic income The Economist Basically Unaffordable Audio A Feminist Case For A Universal Basic Income Join us on Facebook Popular Posts INTERNATIONAL Christopher Pissarides a Nobel Laureate argues for UBI at the World Economic Forum at Davos 7 732 views posted on February 6 2016 FINLAND Basic income experiment what we know 3 069 views posted on December 9 2015 DENMARK Private Bank Predicts Europe Will Consider Basic Income in 2016 3 033 views posted on January 22 2016 SWITZERLAND Parliament rejects basic income initiative but poll shows popular support 2 760 views posted on October 3 2015 SWITZERLAND Only 2 of people would stop working if they had a basic income 1 990 views posted on January 28 2016 UK Green MP tables motion for basic income study 1 753 views posted on January 22
