  • Would a Basic Income 'corrupt' the poor? | BIEN
2015 at 5 02 am I think the current system has corrupted the rich encouraged greed resource hoarding and human trafficking People don t realize a precariat class increases the availability of humans for abuse Many of the poor either had jobs or want jobs just had those jobs and their wealth re distributed UP the chain and this income inequality runs unabated The rule of LAW has not been enforced due to the rich being able to bypass any checks and balances by throwing money at their impediments We worry about addiction and other social problems in the poor or precariat classes why can t we look at the other end of the spectrum What happens when people are addicted to control and use resources for everybody else to get it Why isn t hoarding money considered kind of an illness that affects society Those addictions impinge on the rest of society at a level that far exceeds the struggles of the poor Reply Andre Coelho December 10 2015 at 5 40 pm Dear Karen All that is true And it s part of the reason why basic income activists around the world are pushing for it Basic income is a sure way of reducing inequalities and enhancing freedom to all the people who who hunger for it at the moment Best regards André Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Name Email Website Comment Sign me up for the newsletter Opinions Reviews Interview with Zoltan Istvan US presidential candidate in support of basic income February 12 2016 No comments Scott Santens basic income log the importance of security February 5 2016 No comments Towards a Universal Basic Income in France elements for a debate February 1 2016 No comments From the web Ian Sparks and Andy Lines Switzerland government plans to give all adults 425 a week to end poverty Italy Campaign in Campania seeks ten thousand signatures for basic income The Economist Basically Unaffordable Audio A Feminist Case For A Universal Basic Income Join us on Facebook Popular Posts INTERNATIONAL Christopher Pissarides a Nobel Laureate argues for UBI at the World Economic Forum at Davos 7 732 views posted on February 6 2016 FINLAND Basic income experiment what we know 3 068 views posted on December 9 2015 DENMARK Private Bank Predicts Europe Will Consider Basic Income in 2016 3 033 views posted on January 22 2016 SWITZERLAND Parliament rejects basic income initiative but poll shows popular support 2 760 views posted on October 3 2015 SWITZERLAND Only 2 of people would stop working if they had a basic income 1 990 views posted on January 28 2016 UK Green MP tables motion for basic income study 1 753 views posted on January 22 2016 SWITZERLAND Government reacts negatively to UBI proposal 1 606 views posted on August 29 2014 FRANCE Minister of Economy says he is open to basic income 1 421 views posted on January 26

in the world s wealthiest as well as in the world s poorest countries The answer is not new technologies the answer is to ask who is affected by investment and pricing decisions and to factor in the externalities when relative costs are calculated If this is done then solar and wind power turn out to be both more just and cheaper than nuclear power or fossil fuels The problem is therefore a political one a fact that could have been made more explicit in the book s concluding chapter This book should be read alongside Fitzpatrick and Cahill s Environment and Welfare Towards a Green Social Policy Palgrave Macmillan 2002 in which Tony Fitzpatrick suggests that a citizen s income could encourage economic growth and therefore greater environmental damage and James Robertson proposes a carbon tax to fund a citizen s income which would encourage renewable energy production at the same time as promoting income justice and therefore fuel justice It should also be read alongside the recent Institute for Fiscal Studies report Energy use policies and carbon pricing in the UK which recognizes that an increased carbon tax is needed on domestic gas use and that this would require poorer households to be compensated The acknowledged problem here is that such a compensation package would require an increase in means testing which would impose additional disincentives administrative complexity and income volatility on those households least able to cope with them Energy Security Equality and Justice lacks a bibliography which is a pity and its index is sketchy which will make the book difficult to use as a reference volume But it is a well argued and carefully evidenced discussion of issues vital to our future and it deserves a wide audience About Citizens Income Trust has written 114 articles View all posts by Citizens Income Trust Blog Follow Leave a comment Carbon tax Energy environment Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Name Email Website Comment Sign me up for the newsletter Opinions Reviews Interview with Zoltan Istvan US presidential candidate in support of basic income February 12 2016 No comments Scott Santens basic income log the importance of security February 5 2016 No comments Towards a Universal Basic Income in France elements for a debate February 1 2016 No comments From the web Ian Sparks and Andy Lines Switzerland government plans to give all adults 425 a week to end poverty Italy Campaign in Campania seeks ten thousand signatures for basic income The Economist Basically Unaffordable Audio A Feminist Case For A Universal Basic Income Join us on Facebook Popular Posts INTERNATIONAL Christopher Pissarides a Nobel Laureate argues for UBI at the World Economic Forum at Davos 7 732 views posted on February 6 2016 FINLAND Basic income experiment what we know 3 068 views posted on December 9 2015 DENMARK Private Bank Predicts Europe Will Consider Basic Income in 2016 3 033 views posted on January 22
