    students have began setting up a permanent monitoring plots within the 37 acres of land adjacent to Belize Botanic Gardens The aim of this project is to gather data to conduct research to analyse how eroded and widely cleared land once used for pasture for years can regenerate itself into lush green forest These students will also identify rare and endangered plants for conservation purposes and will be completing a plan for sustainable agro forestry Sacred Heart Science Students On Sunday September 16th 2012 Mr Leroy Jones Science Teacher at Sacred Heart Junior College and the students conducted their first inspection of the area of interest On Sunday September 30th 2012 these students started by measuring two 30m by 30m monitoring plots and started researching and recording data A sign was created and placed at the entrance of the trail leading to the monitoring plot Tertiary level institutions have been invited to take part in a conservation contest to design a rainforest conservation project which will be implemented at BBG The project duration is for the school year September 2012 June 2013 For more information about the contest contact Mr Mario Teul or Mr Venancio Ack at info belizebotanic org
