  • Profile Best Practice Anti Bullying Report Points of Pride Student Life School Newsletter Food Services Photo Gallery Forms Resources Staff Directory Parent Student Info Parent Student Links Staff Directory Library Canvas Calendar Return to Headlines Principal for a Day First grader Shari will serve as Cassingham Elementary School Principal for a Day this Friday April 29 2016 A student in the class of teacher Ann Farmer Shari earned the designation when her parents successfully bid for the title at the Bexley Education Foundation s fundraising event BRAVO in March Her day will include greeting students upon arrival at 8 25am at the school 250 South Cassingham Road in Bexley planning with Principal Jeannine Hetzler for school year 2016 2017 reading to kindergartners and checking the flag out in front of the school She will also appear with Ms Hetzler on the school s morning news show On Track and co host the school s afternoon Town Meeting starting at 2 00pm in the Cassingham Theater Highlights include a behind the scenes tour of the school and the cafeteria starting at 1 30pm sharing lunch in the office with two friends and Ms Hetzler and emceeing the Town Meeting quiz show

  • the program at Cassingham said Ms Clarke describing how the students are grouped into multi grade families of some 25 students each led by a teacher or administrator Each student is a member of this group throughout his her years at the school One sixth grader described the program It helps you build a healthy relationship with kids you might not normally hang out with The IB evaluators cited the culminating sixth grade exhibition as a highlight The project includes all essential elements from the K 6th grade program various skills and conceptual understandings The students choose a personal passion get excited about it and then take action to benefit the community said Ms Clarke who described the March event as our best ever Cassingham has been working with IB for nine years and she said It takes a long time to figure out what this all really means Some of the success of the 2016 exhibition came from the way students incorporated technology discussions via Canvas for example and how the projects used mentors including parents and residents to help the students through the process The evaluators appreciated how Cassingham specials teachers help students take their grade level inquiry into the areas of art music physical education and library research The teachers write their own units of inquiry through the IB lens and also promote the learner profilein their spaces A Martha Holden Jennings Foundation grant written by Ms Clarke and BMS IB Coordinator Nate Maier allowed the majority of Cassingham staff to receive training in 2014 2015 Now six staff members are also trained to evaluate schools and train others Ms Clarke spoke of the importance of teachers having both planning and reflection time yet somehow there is never enough time Ms Hetzler spoke of Cassingham s work

  • Students Siddarth Sivaraman Eli Abel and Solly McDow have been conducting research on Ohio inventors including John Lambert who invented the first American motor for early automobiles The group found conflicting information about the birth and death dates for Mr Lambert that sent them on the path of inquiry encouraged by their school s International Baccalaureate IB best practice Eventually they got so curious about the different information that we called Ohio History Central said Ms Kuder Tutti Jackson the Ohio History Connection researcher they contacted got to work immediately and promptly sent a reply noting that a timeline indicating Mr Lambert s birthdate as 1851 was incorrect A t the time that Ohio History Central was created in 2003 this may have been one of few resources available about John W Lambert Ms Jackson wrote in an email Much more is available today and much research has been done Descendants of John W Lambert have even written books about his life Thanking the students for thinking critically about sources on the internet Ms Jackson elucidated further John William Lambert is buried in Anderson Indiana His tombstone gives his birthdate as January 29 1860 and his date of death as
