    Miller on Feb 04 2013 Read the recent OpEd article http www montgomerynews com articles 2013 02 04 ambler gazette opinion doc510889d83af09533186440 txt viewmode default To the Editor In times of conflict driving toward world peace and understanding is more important than ever As the nation recovers from the shootings in Tucson Aurora and Newtown or as we recover from the critical hostage situation in Algeria we are being challenged to find a purposeful and reasoned approach to dealing with these conflicts But how How as a nation as a community do we build peace As a Rotarian I believe that building peace is possible through service Rotarians uphold that ideal in our key principle of service above self Rotary clubs promote peace by initiating humanitarian projects every year that address the underlying causes of social instability and conflict such as hunger poverty disease and illiteracy These projects are local national and international Locally we at the Rotary Club of Blue Bell are working with our neighbors and friends to address local hunger needs and local housing in addition to local emergency response Additionally we re launching a program with Wissahickon High School that promotes ethical decisionmaking using Rotary principles

  • Blue Bell - Ron Smith heads to Uganda
    Uganda departing Jan 21 and will return Jan 30 He is looking for hospital sites remote from Kampala that we can work with in our Maternal Child Healthcare Education and Delivery in Uganda This is a 3 year program to increase the capacity and quality of Maternal Child Health care in Uganda by improving related health care education and infrastructure A central component of the initiative is a Vocational Training Team VTT exchange centered on an exchange of OB GYN health care professionals from Makerere University in Kampala and Drexel University in Philadelphia PA USA The first main component will be a two way exchange of doctors and nurses involved in education of maternal and child health care professionals engages in prenatal delivery and post natal care Teams from each university will exchange each year for the three years to develop a strong connection between institutions and faculty The second component will be the integration of distance learning programs between the partner universities The third component will build out the distance education program within Uganda in order to extend Maternal Child health care education to a larger part of Uganda and use it as a model in other remote parts

  • Blue Bell - Grisly attacks in Pakistan target those doing good to children (Polio vaccination)
    2012 As reported in The Economist in the Dec 22 2012 print edition ON DECEMBER 18th five health workers all women were gunned down in Pakistan in carefully planned and co ordinated shootings They were administering polio vaccinations The following day a vaccination supervisor and her driver were killed Several health workers are critically injured The youngest killed was a 17 year old in the north western town of Peshawar
