  • Our Raptors – Blackland Prairie Raptor Center
    of Pippin is unfortunately a common one In 2003 he was found flying around a neighborhood acting abnormal for a wild hawk When approached he actually landed on the roof of a car begging for food He is an imprint which somebody raised and released thinking they had saved the bird s life But Pippin was found almost starved to death not knowing how to hunt Fortunately he has become a wonderful education ambassador with BPRC Hunter Hunter Great Horned Owl Hunter is a human imprint that had been doing programs at another raptor education facility He was found as a baby in 2003 and was transferred to BPRC in the fall of 2007 Willie Willie Common Barn Owl Willie was found on the ground in the spring of 2002 in Dallas The person who found her thought she needed help and took her home to raise her Unfortunately she was fed cat food as she developed which caused a lack of calcium in her diet her bones became brittle and fractures occurred in her right wing This made her only partially flighted Additionally she became imprinted on humans and now relies on them for her care Sweetpea SweetPea Eastern Screech Owl Gray phase SweetPea hatched in the spring of 2003 was found by a family and taken home She was kept in a rabbit cage and fed hamburger meat The family realized it was illegal to have her and took to the appropriate authorities She was found to be in good condition but as an imprint she was non releasable and transferred to BPRC in August 2004 as an education ambassador In Texas we have gray and red phases of Screech Owls she is a gray phased owl Scarlett Scarlett American Kestrel Scarlett was found as an orphan in

    our campaign brochure Brochure Planned Medium Flight Cages To donate to our Builds its Nest campaign go to the donation page fill out the information and in the comment section please note Builds its Nest and the specific designation for your donation such as food medicine etc Contribute Online Or if you prefer you can donate by US mail Download a form and mail it and a check to us Contribute by US Mail Built Accipiter Cages The medium flight cages are under construction We would love some more volunteers Check Construction Photos Blackland Prairie Raptor Center is a 501c3 organization as determined by the IRS Donations are deductible to the extent allowed by law Since 2004 Blackland Prairie Raptor Center has a mission of environmental preservation through public education and the conservation of birds of prey and wildlife in their natural habitat By engaging more than 250 000 North Texans in interactions with our raptor ambassadors BPRC has demonstrated the value of raptors and our native habitat both crucial to conservation The Builds its Nest program goal is to develop a facility necessary to fulfill our mission and values while adhering to the strict requirements of USFWS and TPWD in regard to these birds that are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act BPRC is officially launching the third and final phase of its Builds its Nest capital campaign in 2014 fulfilling its founding purpose by adding to its education and conservation initiatives a raptor rehabilitation center A soft launch began in 2013 targeting requirements of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and U S Fish and Wildlife Services a facility for intake assessment and triage as well as species appropriate caging staged for various levels of recovery and conditioning Our Campaign Goal is 265 000 1 to fund operations
