  • Cancer Education Consortium | About CEC
    to enhance and expand fellowship training in clinical and translational research related to cancer Attendees come from all of the subspecialties of cancer medicine including surgical medical pediatric and radiation oncology They may apply for more than one workshop as the individual curricula provide in depth training and mentorship in specific complementary areas of clinical research The two primary areas of emphasis include cancer therapeutics and drug development and molecular and translational oncology The Consortium is supported by unrestricted grants from a group of funders who have recognized the need and importance of expanded educational experiences that will update the knowledge base foster mentoring and peer relationships provide networking opportunities and enhance the research skills of physicians entering the field The CEC is administered by an independent Board of Trustees composed of distinguished educators clinicians and researchers who are leaders in their respective disciplines Board members represent the subspecialties of medical oncology hematology gynecologic oncology medical education pediatric oncology surgical oncology and radiation oncology They are constantly monitoring developments in the field to ensure that programming is timely and immediately relevant These pages describe the programs offered by the CEC Workshop attendance is limited to no more than 25 attendees

    radiation oncology and surgical subspecialty fellowships in the United States Co Chaired by Ross Donehower Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Jeffrey Engelman Harvard Medical School the 16 member faculty includes researchers and educators from NCI FDA and the nationâ s leading cancer centers The course has received national recognition for its focused and practical approach to preparing individuals to conduct cancer drug research The broad based curriculum covers a range of topics related to new drug development and clinical evaluation Expert speakers will lead discussions and present important didactic information regarding the preclinical and clinical evaluation of cytotoxic and targeted drugs the identification and use of biomarkers the special challenges of evaluating combination therapies the problem of pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic drug interactions and effects of organ dysfunction on drug disposition and toxicity The discussion will include a focus on validation of targets and confirmation of mechanism of action and resistance in clinical trials The 20 25 scholars selected will have ample opportunity for one on one interface with the nationally renowned faculty as well as peer to peer networking Specialized evening workshops will also include sessions on new drugs utility of biomarkers for selection of subjects and for prediction
