    able to access our action planning tool The tool once it is available to the school can be used in two ways It can be used to develop manage and record activities on a personal school action plan with a series of actions in the school and to record your progress in reducing CO2 emissions It can be used in safe mode by classes of pupils who can develop action plans investigate different options and provide a tool to initiate group discussion and personal research Your personal school action plan can be continually updated and tweaked as your school progresses You can even make up some very specific actions of your own to be included in the plan Keeping this up to date by returning to the plan and marking off those actions that have been completed over time will allow your Carbon footprint to reduce The more active you are the smaller the footprint becomes In safe mode the class can start with your schools action plan and run through what if scenarios to gain an understanding of the savings available from different actions Pupils will not be able to save the alternative action plans they develop which ensures

    able to confirm the information If you believe that your school has already been registered but you are unsure who by please contact the Carbon Detectives team via the Contact us tab ensuring that you include your schools name full address and County as well as who you would like the contact to be and their e mail address If you are planning to enter the competition with both of the eligible year groups you will have to complete the registration process twice one for each group When doing this please ensure that you clearly identify the year group by entering it in the school name field for e g St Michael s Primary and St Michael s Secondary during registration and by ensuring that the correct age group is selected via the pupil age drop down at registration stage 3 All of the other information that you enter can stay the same i e address contact floor area etc Login Logging in couldn t be simpler You can login one of two ways either enter the e mail address and password that you set when you registered in the bottom left hand login box found on the My Country

    Competition Winners from 2011 2012 Click Here 1st Prize 500 worth of energy transport and organic gardening equipment for schools 2nd Prize 250 worth of energy transport and organic gardening equipment for schools AND Solar Power Car Kits for 5 Runners Up To enter the competition your school must have created a school profile and have uploaded some images onto your school image board created an Action Plan and completed at least one of the actions before the February deadline completed the teacher feedback form and be prepared to be a case study for the Carbon Detectives programme The aims of the competition are to encourage creative thinking and wide scale pupil engagement across the school in reducing its carbon footprint showcase possible solutions to the carbon crisis that can be adopted by other schools and businesses in Ireland educate and empower young people with regard to Climate Change and the actions that can be taken to reduce its impact If you have any further enquiries please do hesitate to contact the Carbon Detectives team directly through the Contact Us tab The competition is now closed Menu Teachers Corner Carbon Calculators Action planning tools Engineered by Solstice Associates Terms and

    took part in national competitions allowing them to showcase their activities and be recognised for their work in reducing CO 2 emissions Prizes were awarded in two age categories primary 8 11 year olds and secondary 11 14 year olds The winner of the older age category was also entered into the International Carbon Detectives competition Six schools from Austria Bulgaria Hungary Lithuania Romania and the UK were invited to participate in the international competition held in Litoměřice in the Czech Republic from the 18th 21st July 2011 Litoměřice Czech Republic Building solar ovens Making paper boats Each school sent five participants either three pupils and two teachers or four pupils and one teacher To participate in the international competition the pupils and teachers from each country were required to produce an A1 sized poster and presentation describing their Carbon Detectives projects as detailed in their national competition entry The first place prize was jointly awarded to Hauptschule Munderfing from Austria and Pal anca Secondary School from Romanian for which they each received 600 Each of the remaining schools were awarded a prize of 200 in recognition of their hard work and to help continue their efforts in reducing CO

    Josephs BNS Terenure The children at St Josephs BNS Terenure are very enthusiastic about looking after their environment In the last 18 months they have reduced their energy consumption by 10 since they joined the School Travel Programme Car usage on the journey to school has been reduced by 20 25 In the last two years they have reduced car usage on the journey home from school by 15 Dual flush cisterns have been installed throughout the school building They continue to recycle all their paper cardboard and plastic waste and they recycle mobile phones with benefit to charities as well as the environment Seven day timers have been installed on the heating system to save energy 2nd Prize St Eunans National School Laghey Donegal St Eunan s N S are very committed to reducing their carbon footprint in order to help combat climate change They have set up an effective Carbon Detective Committee who supervises the work on the reduction of energy usage Posters have been created by the children A Switch it off campaign is now in operation to encourage people to switch off lights and appliances when not in use Sensor lights have been installed in classrooms
