  • The Snow and Lights of Chicago | CASE District V - Council for Advancement and Support of Education District V
Snow and Lights of Chicago The Snow and Lights of Chicago Posted April 27 2015 by Brad Bundy The snow had just started falling when a van full of 7 advancement professionals left Delaware Ohio in December 1986 and headed to Chicago I was the ripe old age of 23 and a month earlier had landed the job of Assistant Director of Annual Giving at Ohio Wesleyan University Now I was heading to my first professional advancement conference By the time I saw the lights of the Marriott hotel on Michigan Avenue the streets were packed with 12 inches of sleet and slush the temperatures had plummeted and I was admittedly a bit anxious about what was in store for me over the next few days I had no idea the CASE conference that was about to begin would be the start of a relationship that would last nearly 30 years And I would have never predicted that CASE would provide me with countless friendships and colleagues who would help guide and advise me throughout my entire career Within two years of that first conference I was called upon to speak at CASE for the first time A year later I volunteered to help manually count and record the speaker evaluations For years I routinely could be found each December hosting a roundtable serving on a panel discussion or simply serving as a session host I had no idea how many volunteers were needed on an annual basis to put on the District V conference I had the great fortune to serve on the Conference Committee and was later elected to the Board of Director for the district But it all started with the commitment to spend a few chilly days in Chicago back in 1986 As the current Chair
