  • About CCR - The Center for Conflict Resolution in Chicago
    Center provides our client base with quality mediation services regardless of race ethnicity gender sexual orientation class or socioeconomic status age religion national origin disability professional background or other characteristics We strive to reflect the diverse communities we serve in our staff our board and our volunteers The History of the Center for Conflict Resolution In 1979 the Young Lawyers Section of The Chicago Bar Association supported the creation of a not for profit corporation to aid the Chicago community in effectively handling disputes Originally known as the Neighborhood Justice of Chicago the Center for Conflict Resolution opened in a storefront in Chicago s Uptown Neighborhood to help people resolve their conflicts through mediation In the early 1980 s CCR began accepting a significant number of case referrals from the Circuit Court of Cook County To reach the community more effectively and to enhance their new services CCR moved its offices to Chicago s downtown loop CCR continued its reach through programs developed in the Circuit Court of Cook County and in city and state institutions that continue today From juvenile offenders and victims landlord tenant conflicts and small claims matters to employment discrimination and Chancery Court cases CCR provides a successful option for the court and to the residents of the Chicago land community In the 1990 s having successfully trained hundreds of volunteers to mediate for the organization CCR began offering mediation skills training to individuals along with custom designed conflict management training programs for organizations Today the Center for Conflict Resolution is governed by a 22 member Board of Directors and relies on a full time staff of eleven and approximately 120 active volunteer mediators who mediate 95 of CCR s cases In the past five years alone CCR mediated over 10 000 cases and provided conflict

    ccrchicago org or at 312 922 6464 x29 What is the Volunteer Council The Volunteer Council serves as the governing body for CCR volunteers Membership on the VC is not restricted to mediators individuals who devote their time and energy to CCR in other ways are also eligible to run including the volunteers who work so hard on the CCR fundraiser each year individuals who work with CCR as trainers and mentors and others who provide valuable volunteer assistance and support How is the Volunteer Council structured The VC meets monthly and does most of its work through three standing committees ad hoc committees may also be formed for specific projects and initiatives The Training Continuing Education Committee provides key support for our Training and Volunteer Development Departments by assisting with marketing efforts of our Mediation Skills Trainings and developing opportunities for continuing education for CCR mediators and trainers In order to support the highest possible quality of service to our clients the Quality Standards Committee provides leadership for decision making around the standards of practice for CCR mediators The goal of the Volunteer Community Committee is to enhance the experience of CCR s volunteer s experience by creating a community that is rich in connection and learning Why should I consider being part of the VC Because the VC can t succeed without you CCR s lifeblood is the volunteer community that puts its strategy and programs in motion This is a great chance for you to develop and hone your leadership skills by becoming an officer or leading a committee or subcommittee to share or develop your expertise by spearheading an initiative or simply to make friends and meet more fellow volunteers This is also an opportunity for you to use your skills in a non mediator capacity
