  • Community Design Collaborative –
    to explore nature based play spaces for family child care providers in Philly The aim of the charrette is to improve the quality of family child care through creating design prototypes that work for small urban spaces and enhance family child care sites as both settings for child care and as family residences The charrette will also introduce design professionals to the concepts and diverse forms of nature based play and provide gui dance for family child care providers applying for grants to improve their outdoor play space Participants will work in multidisciplinary teams of volunteer design professionals child care providers educators families and other stakeholders 8am 4pm Design Charrette 4pm 6pm Public Presentation 6pm 7 30 Reception Find out more about the charrette AIA ASLA CES credits HSW are available for this event To participate in the charrette on a design team register through Design on the Delaware The Child s Play charrette is part of Design on the Delaware AIA Philadelphia s annual regional conference The charrette is funded with support from the William Penn Foundation as part of Infill Philadelphia Play Space a partnership between the Community Design Collaborative and the Delaware Valley Association for the Education

    and drawings of children have to tell us as we re imagine urban play spaces Showcasing the paintings of more than one hundred Philadelphia public elementary school children Anna Beresin s innovative book presents images and stories that illustrate what children do at recess and how it makes them feel This workshop will feature fun informal drawing exercises led by Beresin Anna Beresin is a multi disciplinary scholar with two Ph D s one in Psychology and one in Folklore A regular visiting Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Anna serves as Professor of Liberal Arts at the University of the Arts A Lindback Teaching Award winner she has created several new courses for the University Observing Humans Observing Children Introduction to Folklore and Analyzing Talk and teaches in the Game Design minor in Multimedia All of Anna s research focuses on play and creative processes and she has published on a range of topics from toys and children s museums to the history of movement games Her first book Recess Battles won the Opie prize from the American Folklore Society Her second book The Art of Play has been recently published by Temple University Press Read an excerpt from
