    game registers photographs financial records correspondence and shooting schedules for the Aliso Gun Club of California Background The Aliso Gun Club was established in 1898 as one of the original gun clubs of Orange County along with the other earliest gun clubs Greenhead and San Joaquin 1893 and Bolsa Chica 1895 The Aliso Gun Club shared members in its early days with the Bay Island Club which was also a gun club until 1903 It was also originally known as the Fairview Gun Club from its start in 1898 to 1905 and for the 1901 1902 season as the San Joaquin Gun Club The club had several different sites throughout its history There is no indication of the gun club s original location but as of 1932 it was located east of Santa Ana Sugar Factory and in 1935 it was located in the southwest portion of the Irvine Ranch In 1976 it was moved farther south to be grouped with the Old San Joaquin Club Twenty Ranch Club and S M Gun Club Clarence Jessee and his wife Alice ran the Aliso Gun Club from 1942 to 1965 The game registers indicate that the club was active until the

    the All Nations Foundation s operations in Los Angeles Among the subjects documented in the photographs are All Nations centers and community life arts and education recreation and leisure groups and individuals and publicity materials The collection complements the All Nations Church and Foundation records also held in the California Social Welfare Archives at USC Background All Nations in its heyday the largest and most effective social welfare organization in Los Angeles was begun in 1918 in an east central section of the city known as Eastside The City Missionary Society of the Methodist Church under pastor Bromley Oxnam established and ran the church settlement gathering donations organizing volunteers buying land and buildings and equipping gymnasiums playgrounds libraries and clinics for a community where three fourths of the families were on public assistance and where much of the population consisted of immigrants from Europe Latin America and Asia Oxnam initially developed the physical facilities of All Nations acquiring a complex of buildings at 810 816 824 E Sixth Street just before his resignation from the organization in 1927 Extent 5 0 linear ft 6 boxes Restrictions The use of archival materials for on site research does not constitute permission from

    and minutes and staff reports on activities This collection encompasses the years 1925 1978 with the bulk of the material dating frmo the decade of the 1930s Background All Nations in its heyday the largest and most effective social welfare organization in Los Angeles was begun in 1918 in an east central section of the city known as Eastside Immigration from Europe Latin America and Asia into Eastside coupled with the incursion of wholesale businesses there led to the departure of the middle class residents of this formerly comfortable community Local churches deprived of their original congregations were dismayed at the prospect of serving this new needy immigrant population but the City Missionary Society of the Methodist Church had been looking for just such a settlement opportunity It sent in a young pastor Bromley Oxnam fired with the church s social gospel doctrine to establish a church settlement house in an abandoned church The collection records the practical energy of Oxnam later a Methodist bishop as he gathered donations organized volunteers bought land and buildings equipped gymnasiums playgrounds libraries and clinics for a community where three fourths of the families were on public assistance His crowning work in developing the physical facilities of All Nations was the acquisition of a complex of buildings at 810 816 824 E Sixth Street in 1927 just before his resignation from All Nations on 1 July 1927 Oxnam preached his farewell sermon at All Nations on 19 June 1927 Oxnam s successor was the Reverend Robert A McKibben whose superior gifts as administrator social worker fund raiser and collaborator with other social welfare agencies including the Federal and Los Angeles Relief Administrations and the National Youth Administration ensured the continued success of All Nations Extent 3 13 linear ft 8 boxes Restrictions The use
