    program materials relating to California Proposition 99 funded educational projects Background Americans for Nonsmokers Rights ANR was established in 1976 as the Group Against Smoking Pollution GASP when several local GASP chapters across California merged and incorporated In 1981 California GASP became Californians for Nonsmokers Rights CNR CNR went national in 1986 and became ANR ANR advocates the rights of nonsmokers It has been involved in political campaigns in California for Propositions 5 1977 1978 10 1979 1980 and 99 1986 and against Proposition 188 1994 ANR has put nonsmokers rights on the national agenda by working to ban smoking on airline flights and upholding the Environmental Protection Agency s risk assessment of secondhand smoke as a carcinogen ANR works with cities and counties to enact local ordinances to protect nonsmokers on the job in restaurants and public places and on public transportation ANR has established a National Resource Center to provide information and technical assistance to government agencies local advocates and the media ANR s mission history and programs are described on their Web site at http www no smoke org Extent 5 cartons 1 oversize box 7 75 linear feet Restrictions Copyright has not been assigned to the

    and sensory evaluation Also present are copies of Amerine s speeches travel diaries and itineraries collected foreign and domestic wine labels menus photographs and memorabilia Background Maynard A Amerine 1911 1998 was Professor of Viticulture and Enology at the University of California Davis He was born in San Jose and spent his childhood on his family s farm near Modesto California where he attended school with Ernest and Julio Gallo In 1935 while still completing his doctorate Amerine became UC Davis s new Department of Viticulture and Enology s first official researcher He became a full professor in 1952 and chaired the Department of Viticulture and Enology from 1957 to 1962 Amerine retired from the department in 1974 but remained active in teaching public speaking and travel until his death in 1998 Amerine s sixteen books and hundreds of articles remain foundational texts in the study of wine making and sensory evaluation Extent 74 linear feet Restrictions All applicable copyrights for the collection are protected under chapter 17 of the U S Copyright Code Requests for permission to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted in writing to the Head of Special Collections Permission for publication is given on
