ecosystem in the Bay Area and as we began our activities we made it our business to respect the work that others were doing in the community Further we have partnered with other organizations to best serve and to increase the music loving public In 2004 we began presenting our performances at the 300 seat Florence Gould Theatre in the Legion of Honor Although there were some challenges with the space notably parking if there was a blockbust exhibition in the museum at the time it was a very nice venue for our concerts and we had a happy collaboration with the Fine Arts Museums Except for special events which we staged at Herbst Theatre the Florence Gould Theatre was our home However in 2008 the Florence Gould Theatre began to become less available to outside renters and we along with most of the other performing arts groups whose home it was began looking elsewhere for places to perform By the 2009 season our new home was the 900 seat Herbst Theatre Herbst is closed for renovations for at least the 2013 14 and 2014 15 seasons so we have moved to the 650 seat Marines Memorial Theatre on Sutter

We did some research and discovered that although indeed there was plenty of existing classical music performance in Contra Costa County there was no concert series presenting touring artists of the highest caliber Accordingly we contacted the Diablo Regional Arts Association the lead funding agency for the arts in Contra Costa County and proposed that we strike up a partnership We asked if they would help make it possible for us to open a branch office at the Lesher Center for the Arts They responded that they had been thinking along the same lines themselves In fact the DRAA had commissioned an Arts Vision Task Force to ascertain what the audiences there wanted and their report stated in part that audiences seeking quality of performance were going to San Francisco and would welcome high quality musical performances at the Lesher So clearly this was an idea whose time had come We worked things out with the DRAA enlisted some other key supporters including Chevron which is based in Contra Costa County and began our concerts in 2007 with a season featuring Lynn Harrell and Charles Rosen We had an immediate hit on our hands in 2008 we brought the Beaux

to put together a first season beginning just months later in February 2009 that could feature Lynn Harrell Nelson Freire the Prazak Quartet and the Kalichstein Laredo Robinson Trio Well this was too good to pass up so making a leap of faith we committed to starting the series We held a series of support building events in the area and were lucky enough to find some angels who wanted to see the concerts take place Finding the right venue was a challenge at first We staged our first season in the 200 seat black box theatre at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts which was not quite ideal for acoustics and sightlines Luckily for us the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto was just being completed in the summer of 2009 and part of that complex is a general utility space the Schultz Cultural Arts Hall When that hall has its theatrical seating in place it is a quite respectable 330 seat hall with excellent sightlines and acoustics that while a bit dry carry very well to all the seats We moved our concerts to the OFJCC in 2010 and are very happy there So
