    service fee to the solid waste contractor and recycling through the MUA There will be a bulky pickup service each Wednesday This pick up will require stickers and registration with the collectors office 908 879 3660 x2121 A metals pick up will also be held once a month on the fourth Thursday Metals pickup will not require stickers but will require a phone call to the collectors office to get on the list for pick up Recycling Collection Program Recyclables are collected by the MCMUA once per week on Wednesdays Please place your recycling out the night before Recyclables must be placed at the curb the night before collection Wet recyclable materials are not a problem in case it is raining Please place a heavy item on top of the recyclables or else use lids to secure the recyclable items from being blown about If the recycling crew fails to collect your recyclables even though you placed them out for collection at the correct time and place please call Ana at 879 3660 X2121 no later than 10 am on the day following the missed collection SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING HAS COME TO CHESTER BOROUGH Chester Borough is now using single stream recycling through the MCMUA Single stream recycling means that all bottles cans and paper must be mixed together and placed in the same curside recycling bin In addition new items now being accepted for recycling are clean aluminum pie plates trays and foil plastic containers which include bottles and non bottles coded with 1 PETE 2 HDPE 4 LDPE PP and 7 OTHER boxes used for liquids and frozen food such as soup boxes drink boxes and mild and juice cartons and cardboard packaging used for soda juice or beer typically in 6 or 12 packs The numbers for

    our rivers lakes and coastal waters Stormwater runoff is our most common cause of water pollution Because stormwater pollution is caused by so many different activities traditional regulatory controls will only go so far Education and outreach are key components to any successful stormwater program Chester Borough has adopted ordinances dealing with stormwater issues Click here for a copy of the code Please visit the EPA s website for more information concerning this topic HEALTH HOUSEHOLD HABITS FOR CLEAN WATER Use a commercial car wash or wash your car on a lawn or other unpaved surface to minimize the amount of dirty soapy water flowing into the storm drain and eventually into your local waterbody Check your car boat motorcycle and othe machinery and equipment for leaks and spills Make repairs as soon as possible Clean up spilled fluids with an absorbent material like kitty litter or sand and don t rinse the spills into a nearby storm drain Remember to properly dispose of the absorbent material Recycle used oil and other automotive fluids at participating service stations Don t dump these chemicals down the strom drain or dispose of them in your trash LAWN AND GARDEN Use pesticides and fertilizers sparingly When use is necessary use these chemicals in the recommended amounts Avoid application if the forcast calls for rain otherwise chemicals will be washed into your local stream Select native plants and grasses that are drought and pest resisistant Native plants require less water fertilizer and pesticides Sweep up yard debris rather than hosing down areas Compost or recycle yard waste when possible Don t overwater your lawn Water during the cool times of the day and don t let water run off into the storm drain Cover piles of dirt and mulch being used in landscaping projects

    or in the office Checks should be made payable to Chester Borough To pay in cash please visit the office To avoid payment errors please submit the current quarter s stub with your payment Generally you canceled check is your receipt If you wish a stamped receipt you may forward the entire tax bill with a SAS envelope The top half of the bill will be receipted and reurned to you Address mail to Chester Borough Tax Collector 50 North Road Chester NJ 07930 Q How can I get a copy of my tax bill A To receive a duplicate bill just send a note or email requesting a duplicate bill and authorizing us to mail future bills and notices to you Remember to include your mailing address There is 5 00 fee for duplicate tax bills Q When is interest charged A There is a ten day interest free grace period Interest is charged on the 11th of the month and is calculated from the due date to the payment date The payment date is the day payment is received in the office rather than the postmark date Q What is a Tax Sale A Tax Sales are held for prior year delinquent charges all Municipal charges may be sold An investor pays the Borough of Chester the delinquent amount and receives a Certificate of Sale After 2 years the Investor may start Foreclosure proceedings An investor also has the right to pay any current delinquency These balances then get added to the Certificate and added to the amount to redeem Q When are delinquencies placed on the tax sale list and published in the paper A All properties with a tax sewer delinquency or any other municipal charge from the prior year are required to be placed on the tax sale list For example all delinquencies from 2004 are placed on the tax sale list that is compiled in 2005 Q How do tax delinquencies affect the tax rate A The total prior year delinquence is a factor in calculating the current year s tax rate therefore it is significant for taxes to be paid up to date prior to the end of the year Q When are sewer bills due A Sewer Bills are generally mailed out in the last month of the calendar quarter ie March 1 June 1 September 1 and December 1 Q Where can I purchase solid waste stickers A Solid Waste Stickers can be purchased at the Tax Office in Borough Hall OR at the UPS store in the Rite Aid Plaza Q Where Can I leave a payment A The only acceptable place to leave a payment is with the Tax Collector to assure prompt posting to your account However you may leave a payment with the Chief Financial Officer or the Borough Administrator if the Tax Office is closed Please make sure the payment is stamped with the date you dropped it off DO NOT LEAVE A PAYMENT UNDER THE
