    20 000 items documenting the community s architectural and social history from the 1680s to the present The collection contains architectural drawings and other records more than 8 200 photographic images maps including real estate atlases from the 1870s through the 1930s prints drawings deeds diaries genealogical materials books taped and transcribed oral histories and selected objects The collection is available to the public for research purposes HOURS Tuesdays 9 30 1 30 Wednesdays 9 30 4 00 Thursdays 9 30 12 30 Fridays 9 30 1 30 Saturdays 11 00 4 00 Apppointments are preferred and you can make one using the Contact the Archives form below We welcome you to drop in without an appointment during our First Saturdays program 1 00 3 00 No First Saturdays during July and August FEES The admission and research fee is 15 per visit free for CHHS Members become one now Inquiries about our holdings as well as ready reference questions will be answered without charge by phone Photocopies are 0 25 per page RESEARCH BY MAIL OR EMAIL For those who live at too great a distance to visit the Archives staff can conduct research at a fee of 35 paid in advance for up to two hours 15 per hour thereafter This service includes up to 10 photocopies and up to 2 postage for delivery additional photocopies and postage will carry additional charge Research fees apply whether or not relevant information is found Contact us using the Contact the Archives form below and please include your phone number email address and mailing address PHOTOGRAPHIC SERVICES Copies of images from the Archives can be reproduced for publication websites framing etc Staff will scan the images or as needed retain a photographer to make the print Alex Bartlett Archivist can assist

  • Public Notice of Application for Land Trust Accreditation Renewal | Chestnut Hill Historical Society
    Renewal April 8 2016 The Chestnut Hill Historical Society the nation s first accredited urban land trust is pleased to announce that it is applying for renewal of its land trust accreditation The land trust accreditation program recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever A public comment period is now open The Land Trust Accreditation Commission an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance conducts an extensive review of each applicant s policies and programs This accreditation ensures that CHHS follows best practices for easement documentation monitoring and enforcement The Easement program operated by CHHS in partnership with Friends of the Wissahickon has facilitated the protection of over 130 acres of significant area open space since 1990 all of it in the Wissahickon watershed The Commission invites public input and accepts signed written comments on pending applications Comments on CHHS s application will be most useful by May 29 2016 Comments must relate to how CHHS complies with national quality standards These standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust For the full list of standards click here To learn more about the accreditation program and

    purposes Acquisition CHHS is interested in a broad range of Chestnut Hill related items covering the period from the 1680s until the present A variety of media are collected including photographs documents prints maps and all other archival material Subjects generally illustrate social economic and cultural aspects of life and can include architecture landscape individuals genealogy businesses organizations places or events These items are acquired by means of donation purchase or exchange Hours Tuesday through Friday 9 30am until 2 30pm and most Saturdays 11 00am until 4 00pm Appointments are preferred Fees Admission and research fee is 15 free for members Inquiries about our holdings and ready reference questions will be answered without charge on the telephone Photocopies are available for 25 per page Research by Mail or Email For researchers who live at too great a distance to visit our archives there is a 35 fee payable in advance for research conducted by staff up to a maximum of two hours 15 per hour for each additional hour of staff research This includes up to 2 postage and 10 photocopies additional photocopies and postage will carry an additional charge Research fees apply whether or not any relevant information is found Please include your telephone number street address and e mail address in any correspondence Photographic Services Copies of images from the collection can be reproduced for publications web sites framing or other uses The staff will scan images or as needed an outside photographer will be retained to make prints Please contact Alex Bartlett Assistant Archivist 215 247 0417 x206 or abartlett chhist org for help with photograph selection permissions and fees For more information about the CHHS Collection either for research purposes or if you are interested in donating an item to the Historical Society please contact
