    President Vice president Treasurer Recording Secretary Membership Secretary Publications Secretary Corresponding Secretary Sergeant at arms immediate past President and three members at large except as provided by Article IX Section 4 Section 2 The Board of Directors shall manage the affairs of the Society and shall make all rules and regulations deemed necessary to accomplish the purposes of the Society Actions of the Board of Directors may be countermanded at any membership meeting upon motion duly passed by a majority of the members voting at said membership meeting Section 3 All Board of Directors meetings shall be open to all Society members Section 4 The Board of Directors shall meet at least once each quarter year A majority of the Board of Directors shall constitute a quorum A majority vote of the Board of Directors present at a meeting shall be sufficient to pass any motion except as these By laws otherwise provide Section 5 The term for Directors shall be one year commencing on January 1 following election Section 6 Meetings of the Board of Directors shall be called by the President or a quorum of the Directors At least one week notice of Board of Directors meetings shall be given except in emergencies ARTICLE VIII Vacancies and Absences Section 1 Permanent vacancies in any office or in the Board of Directors other than the immediate past President shall be filled by the Board of Directors for the unexpired term subject to the approval of a majority of members voting at the next regular meeting Section 2 In the event of absence of any officer his duties as listed in Article VI shall be assumed where possible by the officer below that position as listed in Article V ARTICLE IX Elections Section 1 Candidates for each office and for members at large of the Board of Directors shall be nominated by a committee of five members appointed by the President At least three members of the Nominating Committee including the chairman must be members not then serving on the Board of Directors The Nominating Committee shall present its report at the membership meeting immediately prior to the Annual Meeting Additional nominations may be made from the floor at the same meeting and at the time of the election Section 2 Any member who is eligible to vote shall be eligible for nomination for any office or member at large of the Board of Directors No member may hold two offices at the same time nor can a person be an officer and a member at large of the Board of Directors simultaneously Section 3 Officers and members at large of the Board of Directors shall be elected at the Annual Meeting and shall be eligible for re election Each member except institutional members shall be eligible to vote Absentee ballots may be cast in accordance with procedures passed by the Board of Directors Section 4 If the President is elected to any office or as a member at large

    December 31 2015 In accepting a grant the recipient agrees to acknowledge the Chicago Herpetological Society in any publications or public presentations of research funded by this grant Furthermore the recipient agrees to abide by all state and federal laws Recipients must submit a short report of their research findings to the CHS within 6 months of their anticipated completion date The report should be written for a general audience and be suitable for publication in the CHS Bulletin or on the CHS webpage The requirement may be waived if results will be published in a peer reviewed journal within a year Recipients may be invited to present a program at a CHS general meeting Applications must include the following Project title Applicant s name address phone and email Submission category Introduction Provide background for the proposed work Include a clear statement of the objectives of the proposed work Materials and methods Describe the study site and the materials and methods in non technical terms that will be used to accomplish the objectives of the proposed research Attach plans diagrams and maps as necessary Indicate whether you have an approved Animal Care IACUC protocol covering the proposed methods or whether you will be submitting such a protocol Applicability and broader implications How does this work apply to conservation education and the advancement of herpetology Budget Indicate the budget for the entire project and make clear what portion the CHS grant money will fund Anticipated completion date of the research Applicant curriculum vitae Letters of support Student applicants must include a letter of support from a faculty advisor For non academic individual and institutional applicants letters of support from collaborating partners or institutions are strongly encouraged Letter s of support may be emailed and should include an address and phone number

    and amphibians reflects poorly on the entire herpetological community and may also lead to the passage of laws restricting the ownership of reptiles and amphibians We support the legal sale trade and captive maintenance of reptiles and amphibians and endorse the concept of reptile shows and expos animal vendors breeders and pet stores However the CHS only participates in such venues through booths and displays that have been formally approved by the Board of Directors CHS members only officially represent the CHS when working at these displays We encourage knowledgeable people to educate the public about the needs of reptiles and amphibians and to help prospective owners choose animals that are appropriate to their circumstances and abilities We expect those involved with reptiles and amphibians to deal with them responsibly and ethically namely animals must be housed in a proper environment transported securely and as comfortably as possible given a proper diet and appropriate medical care and provided protection from other animals and untrained people We recommend that animals intended to be pets be from captive bred stock Captive bred animals acclimate better to captivity are readily available and their use puts no pressure on wild populations We urge all
