    the 3rd best year for E85 sales after the pre recession records of 22 5 million gallons sold in 2008 and 21 4 million gallons sold in 2007 Minnesota drivers consumed 2 4 billion gallons of gasoline in 2011 down from 2 5 billion in 2010 and the state s 10 year peak of gasoline consumption 2 6 billion gallons reached in 2004 Sales of mid level ethanol blend fuels were also up in 2011 with an estimated 2 million gallons sold at 71 flex fuel pump retailers also known as blender pumps statewide up from the estimated 1 8 million gallons sold in 2010 Like E85 these mid level blends are intended for use only in flex fuel vehicles designed to use high blend ethanol fuels as well as gasoline Officials with the American Lung Association in Minnesota which recognizes E85 as a clean air choice that can reduce tailpipe emissions hailed the news Minnesota offers drivers easy access to a cleaner alternative to petroleum based fuel said Kelly Marczak director of the Clean Air Choice program of the American Lung Association in Minnesota We have more retail E85 outlets than any other state and there are nearly a

    consumption in state owned vehicles Between July 2010 and June 2011 the state fleet used more than one million gallons of E85 setting a new record for a 12 month period According to the Minnesota SmartFleet Committee E85 now accounts for approximately 19 percent of their light duty fuel purchases State agencies used 736 885 gallons of E85 from January through September up from the 724 827 gallons during the same period in 2010 I am pleased to report that many of our state agencies continue to lead by example increasing their use of E85 fuel in state vehicles said Tim Morse chair of the SmartFleet Committee and director of Fleet and Surplus Services for the Minnesota Department of Administration This increase is all the more notable because many of the state s 3 000 flex fuel vehicles that are capable of using E85 were not driven during a 20 day state government shutdown in July There is clearly a sustained demand for cleaner alternatives to petroleum based fuels said Kelly Marczak director of the Clean Air Choice program of the American Lung Association in Minnesota and SmartFleet Committee member Using these fuels not only reduces lifecycle emissions and air

    1 Million Gallon Mark in North Dakota December 13 2011 Approximately 660 000 gallons of E85 were sold in North Dakota in 2010 up from 275 000 gallons in 2009 The state now has more than 70 retail outlets for E85 and each month sales of E85 in 2011 have exceeded that same month s 2010 sales This is an important achievement the entire state can celebrate said Joey Roberson Kitzman coordinator of the North Dakota Clean Cities program As the number of stations has grown and more people have become aware of the benefits of using E85 we have seen steady growth in sales It proves that people will choose a cleaner burning fuel when given the opportunity E85 can only be used in flex fuel vehicles FFVs that are built to use either E85 gasoline or other high ethanol blends There are more than 41 000 FFVs registered in North Dakota The American Lung Association in North Dakota recognizes E85 as a Clean Air Choice that flex fuel vehicle drivers can make today to reduce their impact on air quality and lung health For more information on E85 where to buy the fuel or to see if your

    grants will be available to government entities businesses school corporations institutions of higher education health care facilities and not for profit agencies in Indiana These grants are meant to increase our energy efficiency reduce energy costs and reduce fossil fuel emissions said Lt Governor Skillman In the process we can create new jobs and increase productivity which is all part of healthy economic development Grants from 40 000 to 500 000 will be available for on road fleet vehicles only The funds can be used to cover the cost differential between the cost of purchasing an alternative energy vehicle rather than a traditional fuel vehicle It can also be used to defray the cost of retrofitting an existing vehicle Infrastructure costs are not eligible in this grant program The AFV program opens September 6 2011 and applications will be accepted until September 30 2011 Applicants are not required to match any award with local funds but any leveraged funds will earn an applicant additional points in the competitive grant scoring process The program uses federal funds that are administered by the Indiana Office of Energy Development There are a number of criteria any proposed project must meet Among those criteria

    burning fuel are up statewide says the American Lung Association in Minnesota ALAMN which recognizes E85 as a Clean Air Choice In March 2011 1 8 million gallons of E85 were sold at more than 360 retail stations throughout Minnesota a record sales amount for the month of March and another sign that more Minnesotans are turning to the ethanol based fuel While there are a limited number of vehicles that can use E85 fuel the number of E85 ready cars trucks vans and SUVs known as flex fuel vehicles is growing as are the number of stations that sell E85 Minnesota leads the nation in E85 retail outlets and at least 225 000 flex fuel vehicles are currently registered in the state The availability of E85 offers Minnesota motorists an opportunity to make a real difference in the fight against air pollution and global climate change says Kelly Marczak director of the ALAMN s Clean Air Choice program A single driver can prevent 4 tons of lifecycle greenhouse gases and other harmful pollutants from entering our air every year simply by choosing E85 for their flex fuel vehicle instead of gasoline Marczak said Tailpipe emissions are the single largest

    fuel pumps nationwide within 5 years Flex fuel pumps will give Americans a choice to purchase domestically produced renewable transportation fuels Vilsack said USDA s energy programs are helping to build a clean energy economy while creating green jobs here at home and making our nation more energy secure in the long term Today most gasoline sold in this country is a mix of 10 percent ethanol Currently there are 8 8 5 million flexible fuel vehicles on U S roads constituting about 3 2 3 5 percent of the approximately 250 million vehicles on the road These flexible fuel vehicles can be fueled with E85 a blend of 85 ethanol and 15 gasoline There are approximately 2 350 fueling stations that offer E85 of the more than 167 800 stations nationwide Earlier this year the Environmental Protection Agency EPA released the results of E15 testing on vehicles years 2001 and younger EPA s findings confirms there are additional vehicles on the road able to take advantage of higher ethanol blends than currently available at your local non E85 pump In addition to flexible fuel pumps being eligible for funding under REAP Vilsack noted that Grants are available for audits of energy improvements and studies to determine the feasibility of renewable energy systems and Agricultural producers in non rural areas are eligible for REAP assistance Small businesses must still be located in rural areas This clarification makes REAP eligibility requirements consistent with those of other USDA energy programs A Federal Register notice on these clarifications will be published in the near future USDA Rural Development will meet with elected Tribal officials in the upcoming months to discuss the impact of the changes on Tribal governments communities and individuals USDA will also host a series of informational meetings and workshops to
