    When Thursday June 25 2015 10 00am to 11 30am iCalendar Outlook Google Yahoo Where FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean County 3300 NJ 66 Neptune City NJ Get Directions Add to Calendar The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation invites members of the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers to a special briefing to present a model collaboration of three nonprofit partners the JBJ Soul Foundation The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and Peoples Pantry These three partners are coming together to create a community resource hub in Ocean County where families and individuals in need can access food job training and other resources that will help to end the cyclical causes of hunger CNJG members with an interest in and commitment to issues about food and hunger will be most interested to learn firsthand about this bold and promising initiative that was recently announced publicly and that is being launched with seed funding from The David Tepper Foundation Ocean County is New Jersey s fastest growing county and was ground zero for Superstorm Sandy Between 2000 and 2012 its population grew by 12 8 and child poverty nearly doubled from 10 2 to 19 2 Per capita income is well below New Jersey s average Ocean ranks second in the nation for concentration of seniors and it is home to 15 of New Jersey s veterans Sandy exposed the fragile underpinning of Ocean s physical economic and social infrastructure revealing in stark relief the needs of low income households the poor and working poor for access to a range of resources living wage employment affordable housing and financial stability This special briefing will focus on these realities and the collaborative approach of three nonprofit partners that will have a significant and lasting impact on this region To register please e

    Hear about new opportunities for local funding to leverage national resources including a new challenge grant from Open Society and Discuss strategies and opportunities in this vibrant grantmaking space Speakers include Shawn Morehead Senior Program Officer New York Community Trust Erika J Nava New Jersey Policy Perspective Amy Gottlieb American Friends Service Committee Johanna Calle New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice Sara Cullinane Make the Road New Jersey Li Adorno Youth Organizer Juana Nuñez Wind of the Spirit New Jersey s dynamic immigrant population enriches the state Today more than 20 of New Jersey residents were born outside the US ranking the state third in the nation Nearly 40 of the state s residents are either immigrants or children of immigrants Thirty percent of the state s workers are immigrants Immigrants are vital to New Jersey s economy Among those who applied for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals DACA 60 obtained a new job 45 increased their earnings 20 obtained health care coverage and 49 opened their first bank account The immigration policy landscape is dynamic and challenging especially for funders who are new to this arena Philanthropic colleagues are discussing opportunities to help immigrants improve their educational economic health and social well being and to contribute more fully to New Jersey s communities There can be no doubt that the future of New Jersey and its immigrants are closely intertwined Now there is increased opportunity to advance New Jersey s shared prosperity via a program offering temporary relief from deportation Nearly half 220 000 of New Jersey s more than 500 000 undocumented immigrants stand to benefit These changes will clear a path for greater economic growth in our region Cost Free for CNJG Members 35 for Non Member Grantmakers Lunch will be served The Council of New Jersey
