  • How Our Gut Reacts to Exercise » Community Rowing, Inc.
2 Mechanical set up Luckily for rowers our body position during practice is fairly good for digestion However when cross training with running or biking it would be important to note the mechanical reasons your digestion might not be working at 100 In running we are consistently bouncing our GI system up and down which typically leads to lower GI Symptoms In biking being bent over the handlebars for a long time may lead to reflux of food 3 Improper fuel timing to match gastric emptying Our stomachs typical empty about 1 000 ml hour of exercise So taking in more than this amount of fluid or food would cause distention in our stomachs and likely some GI symptoms Not many athletes exceed this amount of fluid per hour but it is possible More commonly I note that athletes who have minimal intake prior to practice note that they have more GI symptoms during practice I would recommend that they start trying to introduce new foods 1 2 hours before practice to see if they can find a combination that will be comfortable during training Kelsea Gusk is the Registered Dietitian at Community Rowing Inc She is working to develop nutrition educational tools for all the athletes and programs at CRI She can be reached at Kelsea communityrowing org Posted by Kelsea Gusk on June 30 2015 1 Comments Post your comment Your name Your email address will not be published Your website URL Comments Spam protection question what is two plus five Comments How Our Gut Reacts to Exercise I have read your page information and gotten many information and Thanks for sharing this page I want to achieve more information about Recumbent Exercise Bike because I love to exercise at my home I want to buy some exercise

  • Nutrition Spotlight: Selecting the best grain choices » Community Rowing, Inc.
package All athletes should be able to identify if a food is providing them with the correct amount of fiber 3 grams per serving is a good source of fiber where as 5 g per serving is a great source of fiber Ideally fiber rich foods should be eaten with meals and not right before a tough workout However everyone is different in their tolerance for fiber so I recommend doing some experiments on your own There is one stamp that I recommend you become familiar with the whole grain stamps These are relatively new and alert you that there are whole grains in this product There are two stamps one for products containing a good amount of whole grains on the left and one for products containing 100 whole grains These stamps are a great way to recognize the whole grain products from the products that are enriched or claim to be nutritious without actually being whole grain Posted by Kelsea Gusk on June 24 2015 0 Comments Post your comment Your name Your email address will not be published Your website URL Comments Spam protection question what is two plus five Comments No one has commented on this
