    Advanced Certificate in Rowing Leadership program Ten Fellows have been accepted for the Class of 2017 the sixth and largest class to join the IRL This class will join four soon to be five after graduation in June previous classes of alumni changing lives through rowing The application pool was the most competitive to date with six women and four men have been selected from this pool and enrolled as members of the Class of 2017 Vicky Babson UCLA Sam Casto University of Virginia Logan Jester Williams College Joe Lake Bowdoin College Priscilla Livingston University of Michigan Katie Muench University of Wisconsin Marysa Semprebon Colorado State University Bob Sheetz Northeastern University Stephanie Weiner University of New Hampshire JJ Zhou Tufts University Glenn Merry CEO of USRowing said The Institute for Rowing Leadership offers unique opportunities and resources to advance coaching in our community Coaching education leadership development and hands on training are critical elements needed to positively engage and retain the next generation of athletes interested in our sport This year I was especially happy to see a purposeful interest from the IRL admissions committee in recruiting and selecting qualified candidates that included gender diversity One of the strengths of rowing in the United States has been the growth to equal participation in the number of female athletes However we need greater female representation in our leadership coach and administrator roles to fully realize the benefit of gender equality for rowing The Advanced Certificate in Rowing Leadership program is a twelve month intensive active learning experience Fellows attend daily classes taught by top level instructors and coaches from universities including Harvard University Brown University Boston University and Northeastern University Before and after classes each day fellows put their knowledge into practice through a mentored assistant coach program The fellows work with world class coaches in youth collegiate and pre elite level rowing programs on the Charles River and throughout Boston Matt Lehrer the CRI Director of Coaching Education commented on the Class of 2017 With the strongest application pool to date we were in a position to accept our largest IRL class yet Not only did we have a higher number of applicants but the quality of applicant was also more competitive We are very excited to bring such a diverse and experienced group of aspiring leaders In particular with the growth in women s rowing we are thrilled that the Class of 2017 accurately reflects the landscape of modern rowing More information on the program course structure instructors and application details can be found online at www IRLatCRI org ABOUT THE INSTITUTE FOR ROWING LEADERSHIP IRL CRI The Institute for Rowing Leadership based in Brighton MA at Community Rowing Inc is a one of a kind opportunity for aspiring leaders in rowing to study and share knowledge As the only sport specific graduate level education program in the USA the IRL provides an intensive yearlong post graduate fellowship program for selected applicants seeking the Advanced Certificate in Rowing Leadership
