    Gala supporters Boston Links About Us Events Directions FAQ Volunteer at the Giving Factory Host a Drive Donate Funds Boston Home BNY Mellon s Operation Warm Provides 2 500 New Coats Over the course of the 2013 2014 winter season Cradles to Crayons anticipates receiving requests for basic essentials like coats clothing shoes boots and more from 17 000 local in need children To assist Cradles to Crayons in meeting this demand and to help launch Cradles to Crayons Gear Up for Winter efforts BNY Mellon generously donated 2 500 brand new winter coats All of the brand new winter coats were facilitated through Operation Warm Cradles to Crayons Gear Up for Winter program is focused on providing the warm winter items children need and deserve to stay safe and healthy this winter For families already stretching budgets providing a warm winter coat is often not an option Children without warm winter coats or other winter items are at a high risk of suffering from cold related conditions like frostbite and hypothermia Having these brand new winter coats all in specific sizes we know we will need is critical before New England winter sets in With the rising cost of utilities rent clothing food and more providing winter coats to families helps free up finances to address these other critical unmet needs said Lynn Margherio Founder CEO of Cradles to Crayons We are so grateful to BNY Mellon for making a significant commitment not only to Cradles to Crayons but also to the children and families we serve We commend BNY Mellon for making the health and safety of Massachusetts most vulnerable population a priority On Friday November 1 st employees from BNY Mellon will travel to Cradles to Crayons Giving Factory warehouse in Brighton MA BNY Mellon employees will

    our out of stock items Philadelphia Links About Us Directions Donate Funds Donation Tax Receipt Events FAQ Volunteer at the Giving Factory Philadelphia Home Malvern teen Cradles to Crayons volunteer earns Presidential Volunteer Service Award One was on the official stationery of the President of the United States the other on an email from Cradles to Crayons manager of volunteer relations One spelled out her accomplishments at length the other said it in a handful of words The common thread in both The extraordinary volunteering commitment of Malvern resident Jasmine Syed an 11th grade student at The Baldwin School past Teen Leadership Corps member at Cradles to Crayons and current active volunteer with the local nonprofit organization Jasmine s efforts at Cradles to Crayons were spotlighted recently when she received a prized President s Volunteer Service Award for the valuable contribution she made in the community which as the congratulatory letter from President Obama noted Your volunteer service demonstrates the kind of commitment to your community that moves America a step closer to its great promise Thank you for your devotion to service and for doing all you can to shape a better tomorrow for our great Nation Cradles to Crayons manager of volunteer relations Sarah Busbey s note came without a Presidential Seal but her thoughts had no less meaning than those of the president s One hundred plus hours of service in one year by a high schooler is no easy feat Busbey says Simply put Jasmine went above and beyond not just in hours volunteered here but in the quality of her time in our warehouse Jasmine started volunteering at Cradles to Crayons as part of its Teen Leadership Corps The half year program that provides high school students throughout the Greater Philadelphia region a unique hands on opportunity to develop or improve their organizational and leadership skills while gaining a firsthand understanding of the importance of volunteering in their communities Now in its sixth year the Teen Leadership Corps program enables the students to put into practice what they ve learned by engaging their communities in product collections by leading volunteer groups at the Giving Factory and by raising awareness about the need for and work of Cradles to Crayons The mission resonated with Jasmine ultimately leading her to volunteer more than 100 hours at Cradles to Crayons gathered in volunteer shifts during an all day summer Backpack A Thon at the annual Un Gala and while organizing and guiding a successful collection drive at The Baldwin School It also brought Jasmine recognition as a Bronze Level Presidential Volunteer Service Award winner which brought the earlier mentioned congratulatory letter from President Obama along with a personalized certificate of achievement and an official President s Volunteer Service Award lapel pin Presidential Service Awards are given to individuals families and groups that have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service and civic participation over the course of a 12 month period I loved my whole experience at Cradles to Crayons she

    interests reading karate guitar and sketching But everyone at Cradles to Crayons C2C knows there s one she forgot to mention volunteering At eight years old Chloe has already discovered a passion for giving back Luckily for Brighton based nonprofit Cradles to Crayons giving back regularly is a priority for the Funk family Chloe s mom Lauren tells us As a parent when I can provide concrete experiences for my kids the needs and underlying issues become more real to them and we re able to start an important dialogue Taking time to have my kids reflect and empathize makes them more committed to helping others Cradles to Crayons provides local children living in homeless or low income situations with essential items they need to thrive at school at home and at play Another important piece of their mission is to provide a tangible and easy avenue for families to give back The scale of the C2C warehouse and rows of shelves some full of donation others empty is an eye opening experience for many first time visitors For Chloe it illustrated the overwhelming need other children had for essential items The experience left her worried about the kids C2C helps and with questions about what their lives are like Chloe s story is an important one Like many kids her age she cares about her community and wants to be a part of addressing some of our bigger social issues She does just that by finding creative ways to incorporate service in her everyday life Whether she is volunteering at the C2C warehouse donating items she s outgrown or getting her younger brother excited about sharing in the experience Chloe is proof that one kid can make a difference In January Chloe was a C2C Birthday Star which she
