    Tuition and Financial Aid Trustees Scholarship Life Extracurriculars Lunch Service School Forms Net Classroom School Store Photo Gallery Senior Dinner Graduation 2016 Staff Senior Dinner Graduation Form Program Upper School Middle School Graduation by Exhibition College Counseling Advisory Community Service Learning Spring Minicourses Learning Emotional Support Outward Bound Permaculture Center People Faculty and Staff Board of Trustees Support Ways to Give Annual Fund Donate Now Pennsylvania Tax Credit Programs School Store Biennial Auction Alumni Welcome Request a Transcript Keep Us Updated Glass Studio The Crefeld Glass Studio Register For Classes Hours Rentals Lessons Rules and Terms of Use Pickup Schedule Summer Art Programs for Teens George s Blog George s Blog George Zeleznik is the Head of School at Crefeld George s Blog is a mostly weekly blog of his thoughts on progressive education and all things Crefeld December 08 2015 Integrated Learning December 08 2015 George Zeleznik The study of topics in an integrated way from a variety of different disciplines This pillar of progressive education was alive over the last few weeks Pioneer Day in the middle school where our students hosted the 5th and 6th graders from the Miquon School was a huge success The 9 10 Team finished their unit on the 1950s with a sock hop And the 11 12 Team displayed their social movements projects in a 3 hour fair in the commons on Friday In each of these cases multiple disciplines came together for one product in a very integrated way What I found very clear as I watched Crefeld students immerse themselves in these projects it that when you integrate the curricula and put the students in leadership roles they organically take ownership over their own education As an educator it makes me proud to watch our students develop intrinsic motivation for their own learning The best way to have students demonstrate responsibility is to give them responsibility December 08 2015 George Zeleznik George Zeleznik November 18 2015 The Outdoor Classroom November 18 2015 George Zeleznik I can t believe it but the first quarter is already over and we have family conferences this Friday We had our annual phonathon on Monday night where the Board of Trustees called many families in the Crefeld community soliciting gifts for the Annual Fund It was a successful night thanks to the generosity of so many people Thank you Involvement of students in real world endeavors ranging from going on field trips to managing a farm Tom Little s fourth pillar of progressive education is evident every day at Crefeld We firmly believe that there are many things that have to be learned outside the four walls of a classroom Our students have been to Bartram s Gardens Morris Arboretum the State building in Harrisburg and the Philadelphia Zoo Teachers and students are also preparing for Pioneer Day in the middle school and a 1950s sock hop on the 9 10 team All of this in the first quarter in addition to two hours of
