    Program Upper School Middle School Graduation by Exhibition College Counseling Advisory Community Service Learning Spring Minicourses Learning Emotional Support Outward Bound Permaculture Center People Faculty and Staff Board of Trustees Support Ways to Give Annual Fund Donate Now Pennsylvania Tax Credit Programs School Store Biennial Auction Alumni Welcome Request a Transcript Keep Us Updated Glass Studio The Crefeld Glass Studio Register For Classes Hours Rentals Lessons Rules and Terms of Use Pickup Schedule Summer Art Programs for Teens George s Blog Advisory At Crefeld full time teachers act as Advisors to small groups of students Each Crefeld student is assigned to an Advisory group upon entering the school and will remain with this group throughout their duration at Crefeld We take great care in choosing the best possible Advisory placement for each individual student An Advisor s goal is to get to know all relevant aspects of the student s life as well as possible and to guide their Advisee toward successful academic and personal growth Advisories meet as a group twice daily for a total of 25 minutes During this time students work with their Advisors to set and meet academic and personal goals and check in with each other frequently to mark progress An Advisory serves as a home base for students giving them a place where they are always comfortable and a person who can serve as an advocate Overall Advisors serve many functions including the following guiding the Advisee s academic progress serving as the primary line of communication with parents both on a regular basis and when special circumstances arise coordinating teachers grades and comments for report cards arranging for extra assistance for the student when necessary keeping attendance records and approving excused student absences helping students arrange for an appropriate Community Service placement making

    Support About Welcome Mission and History Progressive Education School Profile Employment Contact and Directions Admissions Welcome Viewbook Apply Now Open House Schedule Request More Information Tuition and Financial Aid Trustees Scholarship Life Extracurriculars Lunch Service School Forms Net Classroom School Store Photo Gallery Senior Dinner Graduation 2016 Staff Senior Dinner Graduation Form Program Upper School Middle School Graduation by Exhibition College Counseling Advisory Community Service Learning Spring Minicourses Learning Emotional Support Outward Bound Permaculture Center People Faculty and Staff Board of Trustees Support Ways to Give Annual Fund Donate Now Pennsylvania Tax Credit Programs School Store Biennial Auction Alumni Welcome Request a Transcript Keep Us Updated Glass Studio The Crefeld Glass Studio Register For Classes Hours Rentals Lessons Rules and Terms of Use Pickup Schedule Summer Art Programs for Teens George s Blog Learning and Emotional Support at The Crefeld School Crefeld recognizes that every person is a unique constellation of strengths and needs Our faculty is sensitive to these differences and demonstrates that in the way they construct their curriculum teach their courses and relate to each student Some of our students have been identified with specific learning or emotional needs and therefore the following supports exist for any student who wants and or needs them Teachers and Advisors Students can receive extra help with academics through their advisors during advisory periods or by scheduling time to meet with teachers Students can often arrange to stay after school or spend lunch with a teacher when they need extra help Extended Learning Period Each student will participate in four Extended Learning Periods per week This time is to be used by students to complete research and homework assignments during a time when they can receive guidance from teachers or to explore their own curiosities through independent work Some students may use this time for Learning Support Learning Support Students who need extra help or individualized attention in certain subject areas may receive more dedicated assistance with a Learning Specialist in a Learning Support class Students may sign up for this class or faculty members may identify that a student needs extra help from a Learning Specialist on a regular basis Outside Tutoring The Crefeld School can recommend an outside tutoring agency to provide services to our students on our premises or off campus In some circumstances the Learning Specialist may recommend outside tutoring and will help the family to make arrangements The family will be responsible for the costs of this tutoring Social Workers Crefeld has one full time and two part time social worker as well as several interns each year A member of this team can meet with a student either in an ongoing or temporary way to help them process difficulties around school home social relationships or whatever else may be bothering the student They also run a variety of groups each year to address the needs of a particular group of students Some examples of groups that have run in the past are Women s Group

    Pickup Schedule Summer Art Programs for Teens George s Blog Permaculture Center About Welcome Mission and History Progressive Education School Profile Employment Contact and Directions Admissions Welcome Viewbook Apply Now Open House Schedule Request More Information Tuition and Financial Aid Trustees Scholarship Life Extracurriculars Lunch Service School Forms Net Classroom School Store Photo Gallery Senior Dinner Graduation 2016 Staff Senior Dinner Graduation Form Program Upper School Middle School Graduation by Exhibition College Counseling Advisory Community Service Learning Spring Minicourses Learning Emotional Support Outward Bound Permaculture Center People Faculty and Staff Board of Trustees Support Ways to Give Annual Fund Donate Now Pennsylvania Tax Credit Programs School Store Biennial Auction Alumni Welcome Request a Transcript Keep Us Updated Glass Studio The Crefeld Glass Studio Register For Classes Hours Rentals Lessons Rules and Terms of Use Pickup Schedule Summer Art Programs for Teens George s Blog Permaculture Center The Crefeld Permaculture Center adds an outdoor classroom to our campus Teaching students about environmental sustainability is now a part of Crefeld s curriculum The Permaculture Center was a welcome addition to both our Middle and Upper School science programs our science curriculum has evolved to include courses based around the Center What is the Permaculture Center Recently Crefeld embarked on a multi year project to build and renovate new and existing space on campus for an environmental outdoor facility The goal of this project is to develop our curriculum to enable our students to take ownership of this learning space and then share their knowledge with others It s happening faster than we expected Last year neighborhood elementary school students were invited to campus to learn more about urban agriculture Our students became the teachers and taught a group of interested younger students about chickens and greenhouses Phase 1 completed We worked with Philadelphia University to design our Permaculture Center In collaboration with the University we built a greenhouse with a north facing straw bale wall and a south facing aquaponics wall We also built a chicken coop and yard with viewing areas Phase 2 in progress To be able to use the greenhouse year round we built it near our glassblowing studio so that we can repurpose the waste heat from that facility In Phase Two we have rebuilt the glass studio s exhaust shed and are now in the process of harnessing this expelled heat to warm the greenhouse Phase 3 future We will build an outdoor classroom that can be used for a variety of purposes including classes for our students as well as hosting field trips The Permaculture Center has heightened our students level of thinking about environmentalism and sustainability and they are coming up with new plans that were not a part of the original design Already we have added a bat house to the outside of the greenhouse a healthy bat population means fewer bugs which means that gardeners use fewer pesticides We also have plans for rainwater collection composting and mushroom farming using the chicken waste
