    Articles and Lectures on Architectural Issues Articles and Lectures on Landscape Design Articles and Lectures on Urbanism Commemoration of the late Jordanian architect Jafar Tukan 1938 2014 Database of Master s Theses on Architecture link Exploring the Edge Material on Graywater Use Material on Green Resource Efficient Building Moustadam The CSBE Zaha Foundation Cycling Project Urban Crossroads Using Public Transportation in Amman Publications Resources Amman s Worth Noticing Urban Elements and Early Modern Buildings Abu Darweesh Mosque and Public Plaza Abu Darweesh Mosque and Public Plaza Abu Darweesh Mosque is one of Amman s most prominent mosques located on top of a hill in al Ashrafiyyah area in Amman The mosque was built by a wealthy contractor Hasan Mustafa Sharkas Abu Darweesh in 1962 and has been known by his name since then It is distinguished by its alternating black and white stone courses and combines both Mamluk and Ottoman architectural features The Greater Amman Municipality carried out a project in 2007 to upgrade the public areas and buildings surrounding the mosque This development project which was designed by Ayman Zuaiter of Tibah Consultants covers an area of 4 500 sq m It aimed at enhancing the economic and touristic aspects of the area and at highlighting the mosque as an architectural masterpiece The project includes a public plaza located to the south of the mosque It is surrounded by three new buildings that house a library a cultural center with a retractable theater that opens onto the plaza and shops The project also features panoramic lookouts and parking spaces مسجد وساحة أبو درويش يعتبر مسجد أبو درويش الذي يقع على قمة تل ة في منطقة الأشرفية من أبرز معالم مدينة عم ان وقد قام ببناءه في عام 1962 متعهد البناء ومن أغنياء المنطقة حسن مصطفى شركس الملقب بأبي درويش

    Foundation Cycling Project Urban Crossroads Using Public Transportation in Amman Publications Resources Amman s Worth Noticing Urban Elements and Early Modern Buildings Al Khayyam Cinema Al Khayyam Cinema Al Khayyam Cinema is located between the Jabal al Luweibdeh area and downtown Amman next to the old Central Post Office building Abd al Razzaq al Fayyumi had the original cinema built in 1949 and named it al Fayyumi Cinema The cinema building was purchased in the early 1960s by Mahmoud Abu Qura who commissioned the Egyptian architect Sayyid Kuraim to redesign it and renamed it al Khayyam Cinema after the street on which it is located Kuraim also had designed al Hussein Cinema in downtown Amman during the same period The currently deserted building which contains both main floor and balcony level seating areas is an elegant example of modernist International Style architecture One of its special features is the street elevation which consists of pastel coloured decorative concrete screen blocks that form intersecting two dimensional geometric patterns The building today suffers from serious neglect and deterioration In this context Architect Sahel Al Hiyari sent us the following comments and images in September 2014 about its current condition I am not sure if the pictures I am attaching are clear enough to portray the dismal conditions of the cinema The back side of it has piles and piles of garbage thrown from neighboring buildings The municipality should do something about this I believe if such conditions remain unchanged they will eventually compromise the integrity of the structure as the piled up garbage does not allow rain water to move or drain سينما الخيام تقع سينما الخيام بين منطقة جبل اللويبدة ومنطقة وسط البلد بجانب مبنى البريد المركزي القديم وكان قد قام بتشييد مبنى السينما الأصلي عبد الرزاق الفيومي سنة 1949 وعرفت

    National Gallery of Fine Arts Park 7Hills Skatepark Darat al Funun The Khalid Shoman Foundation Articles and Lectures on Architectural Issues Articles and Lectures on Landscape Design Articles and Lectures on Urbanism Commemoration of the late Jordanian architect Jafar Tukan 1938 2014 Database of Master s Theses on Architecture link Exploring the Edge Material on Graywater Use Material on Green Resource Efficient Building Moustadam The CSBE Zaha Foundation Cycling Project Urban Crossroads Using Public Transportation in Amman Publications Resources Amman s Worth Noticing Urban Elements and Early Modern Buildings Green Pocket in Dahiyat al Hussein Green Pocket in Dahiyat al Hussein This green pocket is located in Dahiyat al Hussein area in Amman It is surrounded by residential buildings from the east west and north and is open to Dahiyat al Hussein Street which borders it from the south The space is significant in that it combines both private and public open spaces that link the surrounding area s vehicular streets residential apartments and other public open spaces It also is one of the very few green spaces left in the neighborhood The space consists of a number of small private gardens that belong to some of the adjacent buildings ground floor apartments and of public pedestrian pathways that provide access to other spaces in the residential block that surrounds this green pocket It is also linked to a similar green pocket that is located to its west as well as to parking areas and to public staircases that lead to a number of small shops and to other vehicular streets It is a uniquely sensitive informal intervention in Amman s urban fabric مساحة خضراء في منطقة ضاحية الحسين تقع هذه المساحة الخضراء في منطقة ضاحية الحسين في عم ان ويحيط بها مبان سكنية من كل من الشمال والشرق والغرب

    Design Articles and Lectures on Urbanism Commemoration of the late Jordanian architect Jafar Tukan 1938 2014 Database of Master s Theses on Architecture link Exploring the Edge Material on Graywater Use Material on Green Resource Efficient Building Moustadam The CSBE Zaha Foundation Cycling Project Urban Crossroads Using Public Transportation in Amman Publications Resources Amman s Worth Noticing Urban Elements and Early Modern Buildings Park under Abdun Bridge Park under Abdun Bridge This public park is located under the southern part of Abdun Bridge in Amman to the right of the Nuqul Group building It was designed by Dar al Handasa Shair and Partners which also designed the bridge The park consists of planted terraces pathways and sets of stairs that connect Mohammad Ali Bdeir Street which runs above the park with Princess Basma Bint Talal Street which runs through Abdun Valley The park also includes a circular lookout area that provides an overview of Princess Basma Bint Talal Street and the opposite side of the bridge The park is an important urban space for pedestrians as it connects two levels of the southern hill facing Abdun Valley It unfortunately currently suffers from vandalism and littering resulting from very poor levels

    and Lectures on Landscape Design Articles and Lectures on Urbanism Commemoration of the late Jordanian architect Jafar Tukan 1938 2014 Database of Master s Theses on Architecture link Exploring the Edge Material on Graywater Use Material on Green Resource Efficient Building Moustadam The CSBE Zaha Foundation Cycling Project Urban Crossroads Using Public Transportation in Amman Publications Resources Amman s Worth Noticing Urban Elements and Early Modern Buildings Pathway in Jabal Amman Pathway in Rainbow Street Jabal Amman This pathway is located at the very end of Rainbow Street in Jabal Amman within a residential area containing some of Amman s older houses It forms a quiet and intimate urban pocket marked by stone walls and vines The Talhouni House is located along the path s western side and the Soap House which used to be occupied by members of the Asfour family islocated along its eastern side Both houses are believed to date to the 1930s The more recent of the two adjacent al Mufti houses which dates to about 1950 is located at the entrance of the path along its western side but the entrance to the house is located along Rainbow Street rather than along the path The
