    Project Urban Crossroads Using Public Transportation in Amman Publications Resources Amman s Urban and Green Lungs Amman s Urban and Green Lungs Urban and green lungs are defined as large open spaces often un built and containing significant naturally occurring or introduced vegetation located within densely built urban areas These spaces take on important roles in cities They are considered lungs since they act as sinks for the harmful gases resulting from vehicle emissions industrial activities and other polluting urban establishments They also increase the amount of oxygen in the air attract wildlife bring nature into the city and provide spaces that city residents may use for leisure recreation exercise and social interaction As Amman has been suffering from urban sprawl for decades only a limited number of large areas in it remain open or green and may be considered as lungs in the city The aim of this project is not only to document these spaces but also to draw attention to their significance in city life and to the need to conserve them and to possibly even list them as protected areas Al Hussein Youth City The Sports City The Amman Citadel The King Hussein Park The Royal Court Compound The University of Jordan Campus رئات المدينة الحضري ة والخضراء في عم ان ت عر ف رئات المدينة الحضري ة والخضراء بأنها مساحات كبيرة مفتوحة تكون غير مبنية في غالبيتها وتحتوي على غطاء نباتي طبيعي أو مصمم وتقع ضمن مناطق ذات كثافة بناء عالية وتأخذ هذه المساحات دورا مهما في المدينة فهي رئات المدينة إذ تساهم بتنقية المناطق المحيطة بها من الغازات الضارة الناتجة من عوادم السي ارات والنشاطات الصناعية وغيرها من الممارسات الملوثة للبيئة كما أن هذه المساحات تساهم في زيادة كميات الأوكسجين في الهواء وتوفر بيئة مناسبة لجذب الحياة البرية وتكو ن مساحات طبيعية في المدينة

  • Cycling Projects around the World » CSBE
