and enhance the optimal development of young children 0 8 who have or are at risk for developmental delays and disabilities DEC is an international membership organization for those who work with or on behalf of young children 0 8 with disabilities and other special needs and their families Social Media Home Get Involved Subdivisions Mississippi Mississippi Welcome to the Mississippi Division of Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children I am privileged to have this opportunity to serve as your President and I feel extremely honored to work with our highly qualified and dedicated divisional officers Clearly early childhood years are critical developmental moments for our students and families For that reason I look forward in working with this organization to ensure the successful start of this division The mission statement for the Early Childhood Division espouses our responsibility to each other as professional practitioners and our commitment to families by administering to the special unique exceptionalities of their children Although we have just begun I strongly believe that we will make a tremendous impact in the state of Mississippi and to the lives of families Consequently my challenge for our chapter is to refocus on the purpose

The mission of the WDEC is to support individuals who work with children with special needs birth through age eight and their families Message from the WDEC President This newsletter comes at a time of transition I have just transitioned into the role of WDEC President and we are all about to transition into another new year We are all very busy but I want to share with you some of my reflective thoughts over the last few weeks My little church is putting on a Christmas dramedy I am assured that this is a real word but I am skeptical and it is called Tickets Part of the story involves thinking about what is really important to us and why and then using that rationale to invite others into those things Well I love the concept and it brought me to thinking about WDEC and how we might encourage others to be part of this wonderful organization So I began to ponder why CEC DEC and WDEC are so important Here are some of those thoughts CEC membership gives us the big picture of supporting individuals with delays and disabilities as their families It provides influential information advocates on a national level and gives us an International conference as well as excellent professional resources DEC membership offers some of the same benefits but brings the focus much narrower to advocacy and support to young children and their families The journals are practical the resources current and introduce all types of early childhood professionals to developmentally appropriate strategies and back them with research WDEC membership has been a new and enriching experience for me Yes we have membership and yes we have meetings But most importantly it connects early childhood professionals from all areas of the State involved in all
