outrageous generosity The first occurred when giving out Foodbank shopping lists at Tesco A retired couple looked unusually cheerful as they took a list and began their shop Twenty minutes later they returned with two deep trolleys full of food and toiletries They walked over and removed one shopping bag off the top They then left the two trolleys for us When we checked with them they told us that they had been saving their winter heat allowance all last winter Foodbank had helped their son and they wanted to show their thanks On another occasion a lady arrived at the distribution centre with a car full of food Her husband had asked for an unusual Christmas present It was for his wife to donate in food the value of the present she might otherwise had bought him Outstanding acts of generosity happen regularly They are not always large loads of food Sometimes they may be a small collection in a plastic bag from a primary school child at Harvest Assembly or a person who has secured a job after 18 months and wants to give something back These acts of generosity are inspiring and they challenge my attitudes But sometimes the challenge can come in a very different way A few weeks ago a lady came for a food parcel because she had been sanctioned at the Job Centre She had missed her appointment and would therefore have to wait three months before she could receive any benefits It happened because when eight months pregnant with her third child she attended her normal out patients appointment Whilst there the doctor told her that there were complications It would be necessary for her to be induced and for the baby to be delivered prematurely Thankfully all went well and mother

the leadership meeting for the Soul Survivor trip People were happily volunteering to take responsibility for a variety of jobs and also offering new ideas that I am sure will help make the week even more successful The sense of team working was inspiring And to cap it the 39th young person has signed up to join us for the trip With only five weeks to go the excitement is building Posted in Foodbank Soul Survivor Sure Start Tagged Foodbank Soul Survivor Sure Start Leave a reply Foodbank Police and Tubing Posted on June 18 2012 by BO DCSC Reply Arrangements for the Foodbank have taken a further step forward in the last week The committee met with members of a Dereham care agency who were tremendously helpful They have warehouse and office space that we can use at minimal cost and have volunteers who can help sort and package the food It means that our plan to become a self sustaining foodbank from September this year is a genuine possibility Now we need to raise at least 5000 and register as a charity So I shall be turning my attention to writing bids in the next few weeks Girls Allowed was particularly informative last week PCSO Matt Havers came to speak about keeping safe He gave some good practical advise about dealing with unwanted attention from strangers and reminded the girls about the dangers associated with social media sites He was pleased to remind everyone that although they need to consider their own safety Norfolk remains statistically the safest county in the country Y Friday went Tubing for the first time last week The weather was kind to us and we enjoyed a superb evening skidding down the slopes and screaming to our heats content It s a cross between a water slide and tobogganing speed sunshine water and friends a great combination Posted in Foodbank Girls Allowed Y Friday Tagged Foodbank Girls Allowed Y Friday Leave a reply Jubilee Celebrations Posted on June 12 2012 by BO DCSC Reply Shooting in the rain Well done to everyone who helped at the Big Barbecue It was a brilliant effort and a great success despite the weather Particular thanks to Meghan who ran the stall superbly along with help from many of the guys from Y Friday We were busy all afternoon which was amazing as the rain was almost continuous It was a really good turn out from the community especially as they could have stayed dry at home and watched the River Pageant All 1000 burgers were sold and hundreds of hot dogs in addition Everyone seemed to be determined to have a good time A magnificent effort well done Posted in Girls Allowed Jubilee Celebrations Y Friday Tagged Girls Allowed Y Friday Leave a reply What a turnout Posted on June 4 2012 by BO DCSC Reply I am so grateful to people for the way they have turned out to things in the last week On
