    with ASE West Dance Theater Collective Deep Waters Dance Theater and Aguas Da Bahia in the Bay Area and just finished filming Hemingway and Gellhorn an HBO original film as a principal actress Theo Aytchan Williams SambaFunk Instructor Theo Aytchan Williams AKA King Theo is the Artistic Director of SambaFunk Carnaval Explosion and founding member of the Funkquarians Theo studied Carnaval dance and drum under Mestre Carlos Aceituno founder of the acclaimed Carnaval group Fogo Na Roupa After being Introduced to San Francisco Carnaval community in 2000 Theo became King of Carnaval in 2001 Since then he has played an active role in the Oakland San Francisco Bay Area Cultural Arts Community and has been instrumental in recognizing subsequent San Francisco Carnaval Royalty Theo began taking modern dance at San Diego State from the late Danny Scarborough His dance experience also includes West African Colombian Cumbia Puerto Rican Bomba and Latin Reggaeton Theo is the Executive Producer of CaribelinQ Omnimedia digital media arts production company which specializes in African Caribbean Latin Arts Entertainment a member of the Latin Grammys and Producer of the San Francisco Carnaval King Queen Competition World Carnaval Cuica Y Clave Make sure to catch Theo and SambaFunk each Wednesday 6 30 7 30pm at Destiny Drop in class great for adults of all levels Thomas Arndt Theater Instructor A performer all of his life Thomas Arndt grew up in Washington State and has found his true passion in teaching theater He uses his classes as a tool to explore the empowering nature of movement drama scenework and roleplaying His travels as a Teaching Artist have taken him to Burma New Orleans and New York where he received a B A in Human Rights Concentrating in Theater from Bard College He directs and stage manages shows for

    years because of its innovative programs and long term community building vision Destiny s martial arts dance and violence prevention programs have offered thousands of young people a new understanding of our interconnectedness and have given them the skills they need to change their lives and relationships Through its shows and demonstrations and presence Destiny has also inspired so many of our young people to step up for social justice with passion caring and creativity In other words Destiny Rocks And I m glad to be able to support it You should too Paul Kivel has been an innovative leader in violence prevention for more than 35 years He is an accomplished trainer and speaker on men s issues racism and diversity youths challenges teen dating and family violence raising boys to manhood and the impact of class and power on daily life Paul has developed highly effective participatory and interactive methodologies for training youth and adults in a variety of settings His work gives others the understanding and tools they need to become involved in social justice work and to be more effective allies in community struggles that seek to stop oppression end injustice and transform organizations and institutions Kivel is the author of numerous books and curricula including Uprooting Racism How White People Can Work for Racial Justice which won the 1996 Gustavus Myers Award for best book on human rights Men s Work Making the Peace Helping Teens Stop Violence Boys Will Be Men I Can Make My World A Safer Place and most recently You Call This a Democracy Who Benefits Who Pays and Who Really Decides Previous Next Archive Soon after I started participating in Destiny programs things rapidly started to turn around for me Daudi Manent o Destiny Alum 1990 1997 College graduate Scientist
