  • Launch of Mexican Online Portal to Support National Development | Development Gateway
    was launched at the Presidential Residence of Los Pinos before hundreds of participants from the public and private sectors at Mexico s Internet Celebration Day The portal creates an online platform for people to exchange information and best practices on social and economic development programs in Mexico It also aims to strengthen dialogue and ties between organizations in the private and public sectors while giving a channel to civil society organizations wishing to publish their ideas and views on specific issues An editorial board among the partners has been created to ensure the objectivity and independence of information on the portal Major partners include Ashoka Consejo Coordinador Empresarial ENDEAVOR Instituto Mexicano para la Competitividad Transparencia Mexicana the national chapter of Transparency International and the Unión de Empresarios para la Tecnología en la Educación among others The launch of this portal is a reflection of a new attitude in Mexico that began with the passing of the Freedom of Information Act in 2002 and more recently the federal law to promote the activities of civil society organizations said Oscar Braun President of COMDES Thanks to growing use of the internet even new organizations can quickly learn and take action together to

  • China Joins dgMarket to Publish Tenders Internationally | Development Gateway
    that enables business users to search 500 billion dollars worth of government tender opportunities each year Procurement notices from China valuing 20 billion on an annual basis are expected to be added to dgMarket over the next year increasing to 100 billion annually within three years The tenders selected for publishing will be open for international bidding and generally will be of 50 000 value or higher With the addition of the Chinese tenders more than 60 000 current procurement notices will be available on dgMarket on any given day Cooperating organizations for this initiative include the government led China Internet Information Center CIIC represented by Beijing based China Development Gateway which manages of one of the largest online information services in China and Chinabidding Ltd an official provider of Chinese government tenders China Development Gateway will also manage a local version of the dgMarket service called www toubiao info The site will bring all of the benefits of dgMarket s global one stop shop to Chinese companies including local customer service This will be the eleventh local procurement website to use the dgMarket database and platform China s joining dgMarket is another step in that country s efforts to

  • dgMarket Online Information Service Extends Coverage to Include US Tenders; More than $500 Billion in Tenders Annually | Development Gateway
    global database and e mail alert service that helps business users find tender opportunities at home and abroad With the inclusion of US tenders dgMarket will feature virtually all national tenders from 34 countries plus information on government contracts funded by the World Bank and other major development banks in 120 other countries The addition of US contracts increases the total annual value of tenders advertised via dgMarket by more than 200 billion Information on nearly 60 000 procurement notices is available at any one time Basic data and search capabilities for all tenders are currently available in 17 languages for free More detailed tender information is available to registered users for a modest subscription fee dgMarket was created by the Development Gateway to facilitate access to bidding opportunities by companies everywhere especially in developing countries In addition to the global online service the Foundation provides a turn key version of the dgMarket software to help developing countries create nationally branded procurement websites Ten such sites are in operation most recently in Rwanda and Uzbekistan Data from the local versions of dgMarket is integrated with the global service Adding US tenders to dgMarket is an important step in our plan

  • Australian Mark Fleeton Appointed CEO of Development Gateway Foundation | Development Gateway
    of international aid and support local and global knowledge sharing initiatives Mr Fleeton has spent his career in the management of international aid to assist developing countries He has been acting as Interim CEO of the Development Gateway since January 2 Prior to joining the Development Gateway he was an Assistant Director General at AusAID the Australian Agency for International Development where he was responsible for program quality knowledge management systems and the coordination of programs focused on information and communication technologies ICTs for development Prior to that position Mr Fleeton worked in a range of policy program and corporate support positions in AusAID including over 10 years managing country programs in Asia and the Pacific Mr Fleeton also spent seven years in Australia s Department of Finance Web based information and management processes can play a critical role in aid coordination and the efficiency of overall government operations in our partner countries said Board Chairman Dr Michael Hofmann who is also a Director General in Germany s federal ministry for international development assistance Mr Fleeton has the experience knowledge skills and vision to help the Development Gateway continue its good work and make a major contribution in this area
