    National Conference on e Governance The Prime Minister tweeted Good morning friends I am delighted to join the 18th National Conference on e Governance through Twitter I wanted to personally attend the conference but was unable to do so However there was no way I could miss interacting with you I thought despite not attending how can I connect with you That is when I decided to use technology and talk to you via this medium Am told this conference brings together several delegates from Central and State Governments Armed Forces Academia Industry and private sector The participants and their expertise make this conference a perfect forum to look at the way forward to effective and efficient e Governance I am also told that 22 awards will be presented in 12 categories I congratulate all the award winners and laud their efforts Am particularly delighted that the theme of this year s conference revolves around digital governance skill development and employability Centre is committed to realising dream of a Digital India with a vision to make India a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy We are actively working to create a robust digital infrastructure that would serve the interests of our citizens and transform their lives E Governance is an essential part of our dream of Digital India The more technology we infuse in Governance the better it is for India I am also certain that technology and e Governance will make processes simpler and remove several obstacles slowing the pace of work and progress While we look at e Governance let us think about mobile first and thus give importance to m Governance mobile governance I urge you to explore ways to provide as many services as possible through mobiles Let us bring the world into our mobile phones

    Community Radio JU lived its grain So much so it humbled qualified radio professionals to see young people from the community make their own programmes Sishu Tirtho Alochana Srutinatoke r Natya Company Asor Mukhomukhi the list goes on Most importantly Radio Maths a programme produced and broadcast with help from the Department of Science and Technology showed the strong links between academia and their communities Through Radio Maths JU Community Radio went to prove how radio in the hands of its own community could broach on a subject that many felt was the threshold of rocket science This effort has also been showcased before the Central Institute of Mathematics no less Radio JU successfully completed the Science for Women Project by Department of Science and Technology DST to increase awareness about health and hygiene among women Women from the community participated organised programmes in their locality learnt to create scripts and produce programmes Of course there was a team to mentor this community a team we have all been proud to know as Sarbani Abhishek and Nilanjana Through the involvement of the local community Community Radio JU also showed to all of us how a Community Radio Station must be run It succeeded where Radio SRFTI run by qualified professional in the same city struggled Which brings us to ask ourselves why JU Community Radio faces the prospects we dread to hear of Has the academic community felt that the less than qualified community members who frequently accessed their radio station trespassed their holy grail JU Community Radio had its team of child reporters and volunteers a perfect show of academia being the most active proponents of civil society What will happen of this team The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has for a long time stressed on the involvement

    welfare laws policies and schemes to marginalised sections of the society The voice based legal information kiosks or NyayaPath as they are called have been set up in the largely tribal states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh under a joint initiative of the Department of Justice Ministry of Law Justice Government of India UNDP and OneWorld Foundation India A total of 50 kiosks 25 in each state have been set up and are equipped with latest user friendly utilities and facilities like the touch screen free print facility animated videos content in local languages like Santhali and Chhattisgarhi The kiosks with their unique features have attracted 56 000 people from the remote areas of twin tribal states in providing them with legal information assistance of any kind The assistance booths come as a comprehensive package as they deal with a variety of themes The initial feedback suggests that out of a total of twelve themes on which the kiosks are programmed to help assistance seekers information on themes like women rights senior citizen rights rights of a citizen in police station and RTI are being viewed the most This information could further help the government in getting an idea of the maximum types of queries being posed by the people which could be further helpful in devising more informed grievance redressal mechanisms To guide people through the navigation process of the NyayaPath and to smoothen out the process further Para Legal Volunteers have been appointed as Kiosk Operators who help people in navigating through the kiosk and extend support in linking them with the District Legal Service Authorities DLSAs Richa Raj Gupta a para legal volunteer who also works as a kiosk operator after due training by OneWorld in the Sarguja district of Chhattisgarh says that while educated people are able
