hamlets rural communities The homes in these hamlets did not have running water or electricity and the residents relied mostly on fish ducks and rice for their living One thing that really stuck out to me in these hamlets was how inviting and connected to the community all the people were Most of their doors were wide open and welcomed neighbors and friends Just about everybody we came across smiled and said hello to us even the ones who didn t know who we were or what we were doing there We came across some women with children who allowed us to play with their kids We exchanged smiles with grownups and we took lots of pictures A woman showed us the classroom that she used to teach herself and others in the community how to read She showed Dr Petersen the letters and sounds that she had learned and they practiced them together There was nothing in the world like seeing the pride in her face As we walked a little further I began to notice things in the hamlets that were potential health risks for the community One of the things that really stuck out was an electricity pole which had originally been erected in the water in a small bay Over time it had slowly began to lean and was now so far down that it was extremely close to having the electrical components and wires touch the water I knew it would only be a matter of time before it completely fell over and the thought of that made me nervous Clean water was a big issue as well It didn t appear as though there was a clean water supply nearby and the water they were surrounded by was brackish so it was not water

materials and meeting at the APA conference if both mentor and mentee attend For mentors we intend for this to be a great opportunity to bolster their CV while mentoring a student with related interests and goals For mentees we hope that this will be a great way to connect to someone in the field who will be accessible and able to provide personalized and specific mentorship on areas of interest or concern So far our program is making great headway Section 10 mentees differ in the extent to which they want mentorship on research clinical areas of interest or professional development For example we matched 1 pair both serious clinical researchers based on their overlapping interests in information processing biases in depression Another pair we matched based on the specific clinical goals of the mentee placing her with a mentor who works in private practice and specializes in family and couples therapy Another example is the pair we matched based on geography since the mentee was looking for someone who could advise on taking the EPPP and meeting state level licensing requirements in Michigan We are thrilled to be providing this mentorship program to our Section 10 members Please
