    friendly version Property development along the South African West Coast Recently South Africa s West Coast has experienced an increase in property development that has sparked off hot debate amongst the environmental community While there is no doubt that a country wide boom in the sale and development of property has played a strong role the un spoilt often empty beaches of the West Coast have offered additional incentive for investment It is significant that proposed and existing property developments here have predominantly taken the form of Energy An Introduction As our societies become more sophisticated the world population grows and nations become more industrialized energy demand increases and so we expect energy supply to simultaneously increase Energy is considered a basic human need and much of what we use and take for granted in our everyday lives is dependent on it But how are we going to cope with this increasing need Does the answer lie in providing more energy which comes at an environmental and economic cost or does it lie in Marine Litter Introduction Our coast is precious for all those that live by the sea and depend on coastal and marine resources for their subsistence and those that visit beaches in their leisure time Litter originating from the sea and the land however threatens the health of the coast and therefore ours as well Explore the issues activities and information resources about this topic in this Burning Issue and contribute with new information that you may have Funding Introduction During a recent DLIST workshop in Walvis Bay it became very clear that most organisations along the coast have a concern in common the need to secure funding With the help of DLIST members the admin team have collected information about funding sources targeted at environment sustainable

    DLIST online information sharing community The Earthnotes programme includes both local and international documentaries many of them award winning which take us on a challenging global tour Since Earthnotes launch in 2007 the interest for the film festival has been increasing Why a film festival The Earth is changing dramatically Every day we are reminded of declining fish stocks polluted air disappearing forests rising temperatures contaminated rivers and mountains of waste generated every year the list of environmental problems is endless The world s population growth and people s demanding lifestyles are putting tremendous pressure on the Earth We can choose to close our eyes and ignore this or to recognise that we are part of both the problems and the solutions The film festival is there for all us to open our eyes Through a series of striking environmental documentaries Earthnotes brings you images that carry messages of caution about the state of the Earth making us think and talk Images that carry a note of hope for the Earth and that make us act Where and When Earthnotes kicked off in 2007 in Cape Town and travelled up along the coast of South Africa and Namibia to a
