  • Chatswood Musical Society presents The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe | 89.7 Eastside FM
easily switched around between scenes no overly long changeovers here The first musical number introduces you to the entire cast This is where you may begin to have some doubts How can such a large cast including some very young cast members carry such a long performance Such doubts are quickly dispelled The talent of those performing on stage was remarkable Whilst the whole ensemble excel a special mention has to be made of the younger performers They weren t there to fill the stage or persuade their extended families to come to the show they can really act And sing And dance The younger Pevensie siblings Edmund and Lucy played by Jude Paddon Row and Sophia Barnard show remarkable talent in being able to perform such large roles The rest of the cast are also delightful with Mr Mrs Beaver stealing every scene they re in Mr and Mrs Beaver The show is a little long coming in at two and a half hours including the interval but apart from one young Buzz Lightyear I saw nodding off in the front row during some of the second act you never got a sense that the audience wasn t with the performers for the entire length of the show An impressive feat considering there were some very young children present If you live in the area do take your children to see this show It s a wonderful example of the kind of talented individuals involved in community theatre Who knows it might inspire your own children to get up on stage to perform the whole cast looked like they were having a great time whilst they entertained their delighted audience When Wednesday 19th of November Saturday 22nd of November Tickets http chatswoodmusicalsociety org whatson booknow html Location Click here

  • Radical Son Cause ‘n affect | 89.7 Eastside FM
Buy Now Radical Son brings a lifetime of experience to an album that successfully traverses a variety of musical styles including the incorporation of snippets of spoken word featuring the instantly recognisable voice of Archie Roach Radical Son aka David Leha s voice is rich and soulful overlaying tracks incorporating reggae soul and hip hop The use of a prominent brass section compliments David Leha s voice remarkably well Few singers have a voice that can compete with a loud horns section but David has one of those rare voices and it works a treat It s near impossible to make an album as eclectic as this and not have both hits and misses but still the album manages to be so much more than the sum of it s parts creating a carefully structured well flowing album Cause n affect truly deserves to be a success Take time out to listen to the album as a whole marvel at the talents of all the musicians involved in this project and know for sure that we re going to be hearing more of this talented group in the future Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google Share this Share on Facebook Opens in new window Click to share on Twitter Opens in new window Click to share on Tumblr Opens in new window Click to share on LinkedIn Opens in new window Click to share on Pinterest Opens in new window Click to email this to a friend Opens in new window Click to share on Google Opens in new window SIGN UP TO OUR MAILING LIST Copyright 2015 89 7 Eastside FM Site Admin SIGN UP TO OUR MAILING LIST Program Guide Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Grid Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday

  • We Could Be Lovers | 89.7 Eastside FM
It s a tragedy we don t Her third album We Could Be Lovers is a wonder She wears her talent lightly performing original songs interspersed with covers of songs by the likes of the Gershwin Brothers Cole Porter Duke Ellington et al Not only does her original work stand up to the songs by the master songsmiths but her exquisite voice beautifully renders these old standards as something new Her new arrangements for these covers are wonderfully fresh creating a cohesion to the album that wouldn t be possible in the hands of a lesser musician It s hard to pick out individual tracks for praise the whole album is a joy but when pressed I feel her new arrangement of the Oscar Hammerstein song I Won t Dance is particularly special She is a musical polymath and chanteuse rolled into one Click on the youtube link below to watch her perform one of her original compositions I m looking forward to following her musical progress and seeing her perform live As part of the Sydney Women s International Jazz Festival Sarah will be performing at the Seymour Centre s Sound Lounge this Friday the 7th of November Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google Share this Share on Facebook Opens in new window Click to share on Twitter Opens in new window Click to share on Tumblr Opens in new window Click to share on LinkedIn Opens in new window Click to share on Pinterest Opens in new window Click to email this to a friend Opens in new window Click to share on Google Opens in new window SIGN UP TO OUR MAILING LIST Copyright 2015 89 7 Eastside FM Site Admin SIGN UP TO OUR MAILING LIST Program Guide Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday

  • Diesel n’ Dub | 89.7 Eastside FM
may be an overused word but in Australian music The Oils absolutely achieved this status Declan Kelly presents Diesel n Dub is a remarkable concept album The album has taken Midnight Oil songs specifically dealing with indigenous issues and reworked them as reggae songs The covers are extraordinary removing the barely contained fury of Peter Garrett s vocals and anthemic rock nature of the band instead showcasing the lyrics and rhythm of the songwriting This allows you to really hear the music in a new light The lyrics seem to have more impact hearing them so clearly and the music absolutely works in this way Declan Kelly s vision for these songs should be commended as should the numerous guest performers who helped to create this wonderful album It s hard to pick out the stand out tracks on the album though if pressed you d have to say that the use of female vocalists on a number of the tracks deserves special mention for the depth it seems to add to the songs Sad that the issues are so relevant today but wonderful that they stand the test of time and that so many great musicians are willing to lend their name and time to such a brilliant project Buy this album for the quality of the music that proceeds go to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation is just a bonus Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google Share this Share on Facebook Opens in new window Click to share on Twitter Opens in new window Click to share on Tumblr Opens in new window Click to share on LinkedIn Opens in new window Click to share on Pinterest Opens in new window Click to email this to a friend Opens in new window Click to share

  • Just Awesome by Crump Cake Orchestra | 89.7 Eastside FM
era of big bands but producing a sound with a distinctive modern twist their debut album is a wonderful juxtaposition of big band horns with a super tight funk infused rhythm section Largely instrumental there are a few tracks featuring the vocals of Alex Mckay with the quirky reworking of the children s song Toffee Apple standing out The Crump Cake Orchestra is the brainchild of Evan Bassani and like an old school impresario he s not performing the music he s just composing arranging mixing dare i say it orchestrating the wonderful sounds this group create An exciting new sound from a state that is underrepresented in the Australian music scene Keep an eye on these guys Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google Share this Share on Facebook Opens in new window Click to share on Twitter Opens in new window Click to share on Tumblr Opens in new window Click to share on LinkedIn Opens in new window Click to share on Pinterest Opens in new window Click to email this to a friend Opens in new window Click to share on Google Opens in new window SIGN UP TO OUR MAILING LIST Copyright 2015

  • ndakondwa | 89.7 Eastside FM
shame because he is a wonderful exponent of afro reggae music As with all reggae music he has an extensive backing band and they wonderfully support his distinctive singing with tight rhythms and backing vocals Larry has a voice that is reminiscent of smoky flavours and sipping rum rich and a little rough but smoothed out with aging His songs are sung both in English and his native Nyanja Bemba and Tonga The music is reminiscent of classic reggae which is no bad thing and his lyrics are refreshingly positive in their message and outlook This is music that might not change the world but it certainly makes it a better place with such happiness imbued in every song Ndakondwa is an irrepressibly upbeat album music to put a smile on anyone s face Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google Share this Share on Facebook Opens in new window Click to share on Twitter Opens in new window Click to share on Tumblr Opens in new window Click to share on LinkedIn Opens in new window Click to share on Pinterest Opens in new window Click to email this to a friend Opens in new window Click
