  • Album of the Week – Ruth Roshan & Tango Noir ‘Stories of Love and Regret’ | 89.7 Eastside FM
    and not long after she began to ingrain her listening experience into her playing style within Italian and French mandolin chamber groups It was not until she was exposed to Argentinean tango at 23 that her musical career was set Roshan found her unique sound and ran with it The group released their debut album in August 2009 following the formation of the Melbourne based Tango Noir quintet with co founder Amir Farid pianist The release introduced the band to the global music scene with a mixture of inspired arrangements of classical compositions by Astor Piazzolla Roshan s own original writings and tango infused adaptations of Leonard Cohen and Macy Gray works The band performed on many a global stage such as the National Folk Festival Bellingen Global Carnival Melbourne Food and Wine Festival Moomba Macedon Music Manningham Music and Stonnington Flavours Festival to name a few Roshan s solo career has also seen her grace stages with the likes of the Victorian Opera Chamber Orchestra the Australian Opera and the Saba Iranian Orchestra for projects including Romeo and Juliet Don Giovanni and alongside international harpsichordist Elizabeth Anderson Most recently Roshan was honoured in 2010 by performing her compositions alongside the Russian Remolino Ensemble in St Petersburg The album also features the talents of Phil Carroll Accordion Aaron Barnden Violin Caerwen Martin Cello and special guest Philip Rex on Bass You can catch Roshan Tango Noir live on the 20 th of February at Randwick Town Hall Tune in to The Lowedown Tuesday 9AM 10 30AM with Virgina Lowe for an exclusive interview with Ruth Roshan Beautiful beautiful music Silent movies in black and white with smoke drifting across couples embracing to the Tango this is the scene that Ruth paints with her music Roots Fusion Pure Radio UK For

    of a throw away society Deborah Jones had a distinguished career in journalism most recently as editor of the Review section of The Australian She is now a freelance writer and editor specialising in dance musical theatre theatre and opera She continues to review dance and musical theatre for The Australian is a member of the Sydney Theatre Awards panel and reviews opera performances in Sydney for the London based Opera magazine and writes a popular blog on her observations which you can find at http deborahjones me Judith Blackall is an independent curator and producer of contemporary art projects based in Sydney She was formerly Head Artistic Programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia responsible for the curatorial registration conservation and collections teams touring exhibitions and off site projects Judith has worked directly on more than 30 exhibitions and projects international touring exhibitions and outreach initiatives for the MCA Prior to joining the MCA in 1997 Judith lived and worked in Italy for 15 years She was co ordinator of the Australia Council studio for Australian artists il Paretaio until 1990 She has worked in contemporary art galleries in Milan and Florence the Museo Pecci in Prato and was exhibition coordinator of the first Florence Biennale Art Fashion presented throughout the city in 1996 Judith is currently working with the National Art School and has curated their new exhibition Bill Culbert the light is in the work Work over 35 years of his work including works that were exhibited in the New Zealand Pavilion of the Venice Biennale in 2013 Bill Culbert The light is in the work can be seen at the National Art School Gallery until 7 March 2015 and you can find out more about the National Art School and its Gallery at http www
