    sustainable East Bay Congrats YEA grads Our youth interns have dedicated over 700 hours this summer towards crafting a healthier and more sustainable East Bay Congrats YEA grads Prev Next The Ecology Center s Youth Environmental Academy YEA is a green leadership development program for young people ages 14 22 YEA provides structured paid internships to youth at our headquarters in West Berkeley Through programming based on the nationally acclaimed Roots of Success curriculum youth will emerge with content knowledge across the following areas 1 Health Food Systems Food Justice and Sustainable Agriculture 2 Alternative Energy 3 Climate Change 4 Water Conservation and 5 Waste Management and Recycling Through guided hands on projects led by professionals youth will also gain job skills that will prepare them for green careers YEA participants earn and learn while moving to positions of greater responsibility and leadership from Youth Scholars to Youth Interns to Youth Program Assistants The ultimate outcome is a new generation of environmentally conscious community leaders Community Needs Addressed YEA is a 150 hour program designed to engage inspire and prepare youth traditionally excluded from the environmental movement towards leadership career paths and behaviors for the health and well being of their communities and the planet YEA addresses three needs 1 lack of career pathways for teens 2 lack of qualified and racially diverse applicants for entry level local green job openings and 3 a lack of environmental education and empowerment among disenfranchised communities Contact Us Apply to Join YEA Youth Scholars are recruited via the City of Berkeley s Youthworks program and Berkeley Youth Alternatives For more information contact youthdevelopment ecologycenter org 510 548 2220 x230 YEA Sessions and Dates The Youth Environmental Academy offers an 8 week session during the summer and a 15 week afterschool session in the
