    the Education Center We re especially excited about forming a partnership with the Bonner Foundation scholars and Bonner Center at The College of New Jersey To see what the Bonner Foundation is all about visit the Bonner Foundation website or Bonner Center website Working together with Bonner we plan to extend out Urban Initiatives with Trenton schools At the same time we ve received a 25 000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation President s Grant Fund of the Princeton Area Community Foundation which will enable us to develop programs and bring kids to the Farm from six schools in Trenton We owe huge thanks to Shannan Gonzalez a Fernbrook camp mom for initiating the grant request with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation We re always working on summer camp and making improvements to the physical plant This year as we mentioned in the Winter newsletter we re building a low ropes course that will be used by all groups coming to Fernbrook The Kerney Barn thanks to the continued support of the James Kerney Foundation has heat installed and kitchen facilities for classes year round as well as plans to develop after school programs Pretty soon the tents will be up there s some trail clearing to be done and Miss Lydia is busy planting the Children s Garden The warm weather has jump started our efforts and enthusiasm Nature is busting out all over creation at its finest Let us give thanks to the Creator Hope to see you soon Larry Farmer Q Kuser Posted in About the Farm Camps Fiddlehead Summer Camp How You Can Help Newsletter Unit of Study Urban Initiatives Young Stewards Summer Enrichment Program Tagged bonner foundation children s garden community grant grants James Kerney Foundation Kerney Barn low ropes course Robert Wood

    so well On April 21st from 9 00am 10 30am the Education Center is hosting our first Let s G O event We will embrace the start of Spring and share the skills of sheep shearing and wool processing This is going to be a great event for families groups of friends or co workers as well as couples who are interested in learning how to process nature s fibers naturally The event is held in our barnyard area where participants can meet the sheep and our recently born lamb as well as the other farm animals The registrants will not only see how to properly shear a sheep using old fashioned blade shears but also learn how to process the wool from carding it to spinning the wool on a drop spindle We hope to share this event with as many people as possible not only to educate them about our sheep and natural fibers but to also contribute to the goal of the nationwide C NN The Education Center as well as all of the C NN partners want to inspire all people to get outside and encourage people to participate in events and service projects that benefit the natural world Our second Let s G O event is a Spring Volunteer Day on April 28th from 8 30am Noon to help our non profit Education Center beautify the property and prepare for a busy year of programs All ages welcome for any amount of time you can donate to help us plant the garden clear trails paint the barn doors build a fence around the rain garden string tree cookies and celebrate the Education Center progress Posted in About the Farm Family Programs How You Can Help Newsletter Press Releases Programs Uncategorized Tagged animals April barnyard calendar
