  • Soul Healing Affects the Development of Intelligence
With Daniel I really learned what it means to be a mother An anguished experience results in compassion for others For 8th grade Gabriela contacted a specialist in San Francisco for testing All the test results showed a maturity of 2 4 years over Daniel s chronological age but one test s results showed him as 7 years under The specialist said that because of his IQ Daniel needed special education They recommended a boarding school in New York Maplebrook School Gabriela hoped this might be a reasonable choice for Daniel but soon after he arrived at the school on his own she became sick and was not able to travel to the United States What she didn t know or understand was that Maplebrook was a school for children who in the past were called retarded While there Daniel was not allowed to have a cell phone call home or use the internet When he cried to Gabriela take me out of here she thought he was just homesick not fully understanding his situation He now says that he managed the experience by looking at himself in the mirror and repeating 30 times a day I am not retarded I m not retarded At the end of the school year when he showed her the year book and she saw the photos of the other children she was devastated with guilt During that school year however Daniel developed compassion for the children with Down Syndrome as well as those who had milder mental disabilities He had friends for the first time in his life and he loved and became the big brother to all of them He decided he would become a psychologist Daniel discovered that coming back to regular life wasn t so easy he became even more isolated was constantly sad and hid his face under his long hair That summer he spent two months in his room not wanting to see anybody sorrow had taken over his life again After attending Maplebrook no regular school would accept him except for one school in Costa Rica five hours from the capital where again he barely passed 9th grade Rosemary provides the key to starting the healing process Daniel moved to Switzerland with very little hope of ever finishing high school At that time at age 16 he began to receive therapeutic help from osteopath and flower essence practitioner Bruno Gerard Dr Gerard felt that Daniel s soul had not fully incarnated into his body Gerard initiated treatment with Rosemary flower essence to provide an entry point for the soul to feel the warmth safety and security of the physical body Following Rosemary flower essence Daniel then received further flower essence sessions to heal countless wounds that had blocked his true self from shining through He continues to this day to work with the essences Gabriela herself feels quite certain that Rosemary alone healed him though she and Daniel both acknowledge how hard he has had to work

  • Bedwetting
reverts back to an earlier behavior we need to take a careful case history and see what else has been happening in the child s life during this time period For instance some children will revert back to this behavior when a new sibling arrives in the family they see the little baby receiving attention once given exclusively to them and can subconsciously develop baby behavior to compensate In cases like these Holly and Fairy Lantern are very important Chestnut Bud can also be helpful for children who are revisiting old behavior At other times the child may be experiencing a much deeper trauma and enuresis is a cry for attention and help The child may need to express grief over the loss of a loved one or even a pet in these cases Bleeding Heart is helpful Angelica Yarrow and Pink Yarrow may be indicated for children who are experiencing a great deal of trauma in their environment such as violence or their parents divorcing Finally at the far extreme enuresis can be an indicator of sexual or other physical abuse so extreme that the child literally does not feel safe in his or her body It is very important for the therapist to take a full and careful inventory of all the circumstances surrounding the enuresis If the trauma is very deep extreme additional therapeutic measures beyond flower essences will definitely be necessary Anxiety or Extreme Criticism from the Parents We have also seen cases resolve when one works not so much with the child but with the parents Some sensitive children are so anxious about displeasing their parents that they can become trapped in a circle of shame The harder they try to master these functions the more they fail The key in these cases is to

  • Downs Syndrome
culture one that does not draw on the brain or intellect but the heart Down s Syndrome individuals have an incredible capacity for pure feeling and simplicity By shifting our soul perspective and living in their world so very much in the name of true healing is done For this ability to listen and to learn thereby eliciting a true soul rapport with the Down s syndrome individual the flower essences of Cosmos Star Tulip Yellow Star Tulip and Calendula are of great benefit Of course the other perspective which is equally valid and can be addressed very successfully in the therapy is to encourage the full extent of learning capacity of the Down s individual This learning does not come through the typical pathways of the brain but nevertheless amazing strides can be made when the love communication and respect factors are inherent in the process The essences most helpful in this sense for the Down s individual are Cosmos Angelica Chestnut Bud Madia Shasta Daisy and Rabbitbrush Also very beneficial for such individuals are Penstemon Blackberry and Wild Rose to give the will vitality and determination to continue to accomplish and learn on one s own soul terms

  • Nail-Biting
Glory However in many cases involving nervous unconscious habits like nail biting we have to look a little deeper We may have to treat the underlying anxiety with flower essences like Mimulus or Pink Monkeyflower Crab Apple is also effective for those who have various rituals for cleaning or grooming the body excessively or compulsively It is also necessary to find new options and new behaviors when breaking old habits The Walnut flower essence helps encourage the soul in this direction but exploring the behavior with sensitivity and compassion is also very important Then the nail biter can begin to identify new outlets for their behavior For example I received a report of an interesting case in which a mother massaged Self Heal Cream onto the nail bitten fingers of her six year old child with Chestnut Bud and Walnut in the topical cream blend Her approach was to bring more love and nurturing to the child s fingers scolding or otherwise telling the child to stop the behavior was ineffective As she treated the area where the nail had been bitten down she explained each time how important the nails were for protecting the skin there Somehow this quality

  • Thumb-Sucking
2002 Of course without meeting and spending some time with the child it is not possible to make a responsible recommendation that is specific for that child s history and present situation Nonetheless we are happy to make some suggestions which may be of help to you and others in your situation As Patricia described in her answer to the question about nailbiting there are several levels at which you can address this issue First there are essences which deal with breaking habits You mentioned Chestnut Bud and you might also consider Walnut and Morning Glory Next consider essences which address the underlying fears or anxieties Pink Monkeyflower is an excellent remedy for feelings of shame as evidenced by the child s desire to hide her behavior Mariposa Lily should be considered if she is expressing a need for more mothering Finally consider how to build the child s self confidence and develop new ways of self expression Larch as you suggested is a good choice You may also consider Sunflower if there are issues with the father or Fairy Lantern if the child seems resistant to growing up Richard Katz rkatz flowersociety org ASK FES a question ASK FES

  • abundant rains In the spring of 2005 the deserts were again blessed with remarkable rains It was a great adventure to return to the southern deserts this year yet despite the abundance of blooms throughout the desert we still did not know if we would be fortunate enough to make the Desert Lily flower essence Each day the sky was filled with clouds intermittent rains and fierce winds We prayed that there would be the right opening when all of the elements would come into harmonious balance The perfect opportunity came on Wednesday March 23 2005 Making any flower essence is an experience that words cannot adequately capture For us it is a time of deep communion with the plant a time when we pray meditate chant sing sketch observe reflect and journal It is not chronos or chronological time that we inhabit but what the Greeks called holy time or chiros In these exquisite moments we feel we are standing on the edge of a portal a doorway into a world where human and elemental realms mingle And if our bodies and souls can be present in the right way to shepherd the process then the gift is a

  • Joshua Tree Botanical
the plant then orients in a new direction With each of these conversions the Joshua Tree develops its striking shape and individual expression This same dynamic is also true of the human soul We are not born as free individualities Instead we emerge from the cultural milieu of our family race community and nation Only gradually do we find the strength to create from our own center and from within our own unique expression of individuality This process involves an integration of what is receptive to the past and yet also firmly capable of creating the soul s own future Joshua Trees have life spans approaching half a millennium or more The elder trees reveal a remarkable history of how the tree has grown Each branch end represents a past flowering culmination each twist and turn a new direction once taken The past is ever present yet the future potential remains for another new initiative and new beginning From the point of view of the soul we can consider the image of the family tree It is rare to belong to a family tree that is composed entirely of vibrant healthy individualities Instead we can speak of generational karma that is passed through the collective psychic reality of the group soul This soul condition is described in many spiritual teachings for example in the Bible as those sins that are visited unto the third and fourth generations Exodus 20 5 It is only by becoming a free individuality that each person is able to break the links of generational karma thereby healing not only the individual soul but eventually liberating the psychic condition of the entire family tree From this point of view we can understand why the Joshua Tree is so intimately connected to the forces of the moon with large waxy white green flowers emanating their sweet fragrance in the moon suffused night accompanied by the pollinating activity of the Pronuba moth The moon is a regulator of conception and birth mysteries clearly experienced in the body of every woman From an esoteric point of view the Moon not the physical planet but the spiritual dimension of the Moon is the lodge where souls live before coming to birth on earth In this sense the Moon is also a container for those night time forces which cannot yet clearly be seen by the soul what is regarded in Jungian archetypal psychology as the collective unconscious The modern initiate Rudolf Steiner explained that the concept of original sin should not be understood as a curse upon the soul but rather a given psychic reality Through the moon sphere a bridge is built into the astral field of the potential mother and father at the moment of conception The soul cannot come from the Moon sphere without incorporating the psychic field of its mother and father By traversing this field the incarnating soul also then takes on the generational karma that lives in the blood of its ancestors The path
