17 2015 6 Offline vmlinuz Member Since Dec 17 2015 Messages 1 Message Count 1 Likes Received 4 Trophy Points 3 Occupation Freeloader Location United States vmlinuz Dec 17 2015 This design is a Pantone Black 7 C circle with three curves one white one Pantone Blue 2925 C and one Pantone 3385 C The large circle symbolizes openness The curves have been arranged such that they create curved triangular forms similar to the teeth or fins of a shark The curves also represent a network and the triangle at the center is a symbol of stability and robustness triangles are the most stable geometric shape The font used for the lettering is Overpass a free simple sans serif font kerned manually as paint net puts way too much space between letters The lettering is not necessarily part of the design it s mainly there to show how the logo may look when combined with text Simplicity is at the core of this design representing the easy to use interface that FreeNAS provides vmlinuz Dec 17 2015 Went with a very simple and minimal design while also incorporating a lot of symbolism For the main part of the logo I wanted to use a tree because I feel it symbolizes the flexibility of FreeNAS and the multitude of ways you can configure the OS to suit one s specific needs I also included a small server on the bottom to represent the OS itself I ve integrated the whole palette of colors in this design because I feel that each individual color could represent a different side of FreeNAS Whereas this multicolor icon might be used for FreeNAS as a whole you can use a single color as the background for a specific situation For example an icon with a red background could be used to symbolize FreeNAS being used for file storage or backups while an icon with a green background could be used to represent FreeNAS in an enterprise environment the orange in a mediaserver situation and so on I wanted to bring up the idea of a multicolor icon representing FreeNAS as a whole with each color having a specific meaning but with the final icon being limited to having only a few colors the icon can be changed to just having a single color as the background twk95 Dec 19 2015 8 RvdKraats typically a popular number in western culture and FreeNAS also offers 7 free features The reason I chose a hexagonal shape is because of bees yes bees The reason a honeycomb is made of hexagons is because it s the best use of space it uses the least amount of wax to make a certain area of comb because of the perimeter area ratio and also does not waste any space because it tessellates without leaving any gaps Not to mention bees are a strong networking system Attached Files a FreeNAS Logo2 01 jpg File size 104 6 KB Views 123 GilbertGrolsch Dec 20 2015 10 RvdKraats TheKiwi Gonzalo and 1 last night after listening to an episode of BSD Now Here s my submission Creative Brief for The FreeNas Octopus When I think about storing my data I want a friend an ally someone to watch my back someone I can trust When I think about sharks my initial thoughts are that they are predators they are adversaries they are dangerous I don t want to go swimming with sharks I don t trust a loan shark to give me the benefit of the doubt and not break my legs when I tell him the check is in the mail And when I think about a shark handling my data it makes me a little uneasy like if I make one wrong move if I swim too close all of a sudden duunnn dunnn duuuunnnn duun duuunnnnnnnn dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnn dunnnn Chomp OH NO All my data just got eaten by a FreeNas Shark So for my logo submission I decided to put the shark out to sea and I bring you the FreeNas Octopus The FreeNas Octopus has 8 arms which makes it a natural multitasker The FreeNas Octopus can easily and effortlessly handle the job of grabbing all of my important data from all my devices on my network The FreeNas Octopus can securely store my data and never let it go because it has awesome suction cups built into it s tentacles I also decided to go with the cute and friendly angle A friendly octopus face that is welcoming to FreeNAS noobs A friendly octopus face that you can t get angry at when you commit a PEBCAK error A friendly octopus face that helps you convince a non techie spouse to let you bring a beautiful FreeNas Mini into your home to be a newest member of your family Would you let a shark into your home or office Would you let your family and co workers swim with a shark Would you trust your important data to a shark It s time for the shark to set sail it s time for a friendly FreeNas a FreeNas you can trust A FreeNas with 8 arms who can reach all of your devices at once Sharks aren t harmless are arm less can t hold data without arms data in a sharks mouth could end up being eaten alive FreeNas Octopus Friendly ready and happy to help you Won t eat you or your data Has eight long arms to reach every device in your network Has cool suction cup tentacles to securely attach to your network hold your important data and keep it safe I think the answer is clear It s time for a change It s time for the FreeNas Octopus EDIT My image wasn t showing up when I I strongly agree with the direction you are going but I think we need to take this one step farther The name FreeNAS seems old and stale It comes from a time when branding actually tried to give a
