    I m not sure that this works but try it Install on other PC that have monitor keyboard Enable use serial console see manual here http www freenas org images resources freenas8 0 3 freenas8 0 3 guide html point 4 2b shutdown insert USB key on headless PC perhaps can boot and works if dosen t boot at least do not lose anything FreeNAS x64 full 8 GB AMD Athlon II X4 550 4xHD203WI 2T on RaidZ1 6xHD103UJ 1TB on RaidZ1 on LSI SAS3081E R 8 Port Board ASUS M3N WS http www asus com product aspx P ID 7gfWeKeA2oofkHP5 see https sourceforge net apps phpbb freenas viewtopic php f 93 t 5768 raulfg3 Jun 15 2012 6 Offline deltona Member Since Jun 14 2012 Messages 7 Message Count 7 Likes Received 1 Trophy Points 3 deltona Jun 15 2012 Thanks that seems to have worked What i did was boot the USB on my desktop then opened the DHCP address i got in FreeNAS in a browser on my laptop From there i went into Settings Advanced and checked Use Serial Console I then shutdown the desktop from withing FreeNas web console took out the USB plugged it into the server and booted it At first it didn t seem to work but then i thought FreeNas may be using another serial console speed maybe 9600 instead of the default 115200 configured on the console Well i then closed the putty session started a new one with 9600 speed and i can now see the Console Setup However there is not install option in there It s all conf parameters for 1 Configure Network Interfaces 2 Configure Link Aggregation 3 Create VLAN Interface 4 Configure Default Route 5 Configure Static Route 6 Configure DNS 7 Reset WebGUI login credentials 8 Reset to factory defaults 9 Shell 10 Reboot 11 Shutdown The previous menu i saw earlier before enabling serial console allowed me to see another menu one that displayed installation options I can t seem to get that one back Anyway thanks for the super tip it got one step closer to getting FreeNas installed on a system that was going to be trashed All i need now is to figure out how to install not run to local disk using shell and also changing the serial console speed to be the same as the server port If i manage to get these two right then i could put some out of service servers to good use deltona Jun 15 2012 7 Offline William Grzybowski FreeNAS Guru Member Since May 27 2011 Messages 1 666 Message Count 1 666 Likes Received 23 Trophy Points 38 Location Curitiba Brazil William Grzybowski Jun 15 2012 You don t install freenas it is just decompress the image on a bootable disk and start using it kind of thing The partition tables are pre defined William Grzybowski Jun 15 2012 8 Offline deltona Member Since Jun 14 2012 Messages 7 Message Count

3 installation I would say the issue is still in the BIOS and you need to tell it to treat the USB as a hard drive Also ensure you are not plugged into a USB 3 0 connection blue connector as this can     setup and when you get to the FreeNAS install screen you just insert the second the intended boot USB in the other USB2 port Then you should be able to see both USB devices in the subsequent menu one at a time Each are found separately just not at the same time I ve played with the USB and BOOT settings in BIOS a bit but what I ve noticed is that whichever drive is booting the installation process is the only USB drive it will recognize as a potential installation location My last test was having one KingstonUSB2 0 drive setup to install from and an AdataUSB3 0 to install to The but it seems as plain as previously stated all over the forum FreeNAS and USB3 are not the best of friends If you as me did not initially use IPMI but instead plugged the keyboard in one of the USB2 ports just start using IPMI and you have a spare USB2 port Now that I am up and running I don t even foresee myself using the USB ports after I installed the SATA DOM so to me it mostly turned into an
