    the monsoon We would rework on the channel today The Channel is widened and deepened One group continued work on the Martyr Pillar A marble slab is being prepared to carve the memorial wordings The memorial is now ready to be inaugurated on 24th May the last day of the workshop A Season Outside a documentary film by Amar Kanwar was screened in the evening The next session was for the responses for the film Gandhi by Sir Richard Attenborough Responses on the film Gandhi Ugyen Tashi I think Gandhi was provoked by a strong feeling of humiliation His suffering and determination finally defined India as a nation Tibetans in Tibet go through many difficulties But in exile we live in comfort There is a sharp contrast in the way we talk and think Lobsang Tsetan This workshop taught me many things I never knew Gandhi s spiritual and political struggle frightened me Do we have his courage and determination Karma Yeshi As a leader Gandhi led the struggle walked through the dusty roads in India with ordinary people to set an example for the younger generations to come We are simply engaged in talking of love and compassion for

    was encouraging to see how the participants would take up responsibilities from the next day The afternoon session kept for the drama practice and the second one for the presentation by two groups But many actors were missing So they decided to compose a fresh play and presented the drama in the next one hour The play came out well The missing had gone to prepare for the evening party arranged by the settlement Inauguration by the Karma Singey la The Martyr Pillar is ready to be inaugurated Around 400 people from the settlement gathered around the pillar Many were seeing it for the first time Monks from the settlement monastery did the pujas before being inaugurated by Karma Singey la the Miao settlement officer at 5pm TT Karma Choephel la and Karma Yeshi la spoke to the people Self Analysis And Future Plans Dolma Tsering I woud like to thank all of you for spending one week with us As Karma Choephel la talked about the urgent need for action in Tibet I request you to propose this to the Tibetan assembly We wouldn t wait for the hope from other nations help We must do our work even

    Tibet was inaugurated by the Settlement Officer Lhakpa Tsering la today He welcomed the trainors and introduced the participants to us The total strength has now reached 38 with two more joining from Varanasi The first session got shortened too fast So now we are shifting the session to continue with the first TT Karma Choephel la s talk on Mapping the Tibetan Freedom Struggle ended at 10 45am At 11am a question and answer session was held based on the talk given by Karma Choephel la Questions and comments were forthcoming TT Karma Choephel on Mapping the Tibetan Freedom Struggle In the afternoon session Knowing the Participants And Their Role in the Freedom Struggle each one introduced their partner Some were just reading out the name and the background of their partner Trainors and the participants went out to see the site where the Martyr Pillar is to be built We collected sand stones and bricks Evening we screened the film Gandhi directed by Sir Richard Attenborough Some non participants also had came to see the film Q A A rare chance for the poeple at Tezu DAY 1 DAY 2 DAY 3 DAY 4 DAY 5 DAY 6

    the Tibetan National Anthem and the Uprising Song Karma Yeshi la spoke on Activism In The Tibetan Freedom Struggle and was followed by a question and answer session The second session began with the Martyr Pillar construction near the Tezu Settlement Office A tractor with a group of boys and girls went to collect the stones and sand from the nearby river while a group remained at the pillar site and made the base The pit was filled with a rock layer a mud layer again a rock layer and finally a mixture of sand pebble with cement This is the base Afternoon session was used to explain the importance of Drama As A Means Of Expression Later two groups were formed and they discussed and planned a script and one group even reached the rehersal stage The session after the break was used to discuss people s responses to the film Gandhi The groups later did the rehersal for the drama in the evening The drama will be presented on the fifth day of the workshop Work begins at the pillar site DAY 1 DAY 2 DAY 3 DAY 4 DAY 5 DAY 6 List of Participants Tezu Sangay

    is dry now and four people are working on it constantly It needed to be covered with a layer of sand and cement Tenzin Tsedup s talk on The Freedom Struggle Inside Tibet started five minutes late as the trainees were taken for a quick tour by the settlement officer to show the settlement water projects entirely based on the springs they have near the river This water is enough to provide for more than four camps and for their irrigation purposes Reaching The Public it is the turn of the trainees The group was divided into four which consists of atleast 4 5 trainees and they have to speak to their people or address their camp in the evening It started at 5 30pm Trainees had to organise the entire meeting from arranging the venue to inviting the people to structuring the meeting Trainers were divided into two groups which will accompany the trainees at each camps It began at 5 30pm and the results were amazing This was a clear demonstration of what an ordinary inexperienced Tibetan can do Our Turn Planning today s public meet DAY 1 DAY 2 DAY 3 DAY 4 DAY 5 DAY 6
