  • Future of Storytelling | The Lighthouse Painting
    is drawn into the bewildering search to find them The Lighthouse Painting is the first noninteractive project from Simogo the indie studio behind games The Sensational December Machine The Sailor s Dream Device 6 and Year Walk If you played the Sailor s Dream app you ll recognize the world this podcast inhabits as well as a side character from the app that made it into the podcast According to the Simogo blog the idea for a podcast came about when the developers realized they still had a few music bits left over from The Sailor s Dream Simogo was originally going to release these sounds as an audio collage but they were so inspired by the music and sounds that they began talking about creating something entirely revolving around audio The Lighthouse Painting was born described by its creators as something you snuggle up in the sofa with on a Sunday under a blanket with your favorite headphones on The Lighthouse Painting mystery is inspired by old radio dramas and will be released serially each Wednesday for a total of four episodes in all The first Stories was released on March 18 th and begins with the nameless narrator

    from astronauts and streams of numbers Says Brambilla We all aspire to greatness So much has been achieved Is there potential to achieve this again in this electronic age Virtual reality became even more real this week with the announcement of the FeelReal Mask a device that straps into VR goggles and introduces Smellovision for a fully immersive experience The device which fully covers your entire face also introduces tiny heaters air coolers vibration misters and a microphone Art should be accessible to everyone That s the thinking behind Museo del Prado s new exhibition which allows visually impaired guests to finally see the works of art on display Called Touching the Prado this exhibit uses a special technique that translates digital images into textural pieces that can be felt Six paintings were translated into touchable works for the museum including the Mona Lisa and The Parasol by Goya A visually impaired consultant to the museum named Ruben explains more about how this project works here Canadian start up H is using the old optical trick Pepper s Ghost to amaze a new generation Their product Holus looks like an aquarium but images can be projected inside and seen in 3D In a recent demonstration users could play a multiplayer dice game with an iPod Touch and see the action unfold before them in the Holus In other hologram news Belgian company Holocube has released the Holocube HC Tablet which projects iPad images onto a transparent screen See it in action here Design agencies MAP and Made by Many partnered up to create Hackaball a toy designed to teach kids basic coding skills while also encouraging imaginative play SXSW kicks off this weekend in Austin Overwhelmed by all the amazing choices this year Spend your time wisely by seeing these

    in the real life Elsinore also known as Kronborg Castle in Denmark and featured equal parts drinking dancing seduction acting fencing firearms murder uniforms betrayal and violent revolution In a burlesque 1920 40s setting Inside Hamlet had no script instead participants received character descriptions that served as a point of departure from which they based all of their actions According to the organizers their goal was to make Inside Hamlet an accessible and intense live action roleplaying experience faithful in plot and spirit to Shakespeare s legendary play It s designed to be accessible to anyone with a love for the classic play and a willingness to play a serious game of let s pretend This vision fits within the tradition of Nordic LARP which differs dramatically from other forms of LARPing around the world most notably in the importance it places on storytelling Nordiclarp org describes the three main aims of Nordic LARP immersion collaboration and artistic vision A definition from The Foundation Stone of Nordic LARP quoted in The Atlantic describes Nordic LARP as follows It spends more time telling stories that emphasize naturalistic emotion it emphasizes collective rather than competitive storytelling and it takes its stories fairly seriously much of the time As noted in The Atlantic one of the main challenges for Inside Hamlet s organizers was how to turn Hamlet a five act story with forward action into a participatory experience To convert the play into an immersive game Inside Hamlet was grouped into three acts Decadence Deception and Death A fitting title for the third act because ultimately as Odyssé s creative director Bjarke Pedersen noted The LARP is ephemeral There s some residue pictures film costumes But the thing itself doesn t exist anymore The events of the LARP have been kept under

    Rapazzini on March 11 2015 Share The small town of Malden Massachusetts will soon become home to an exciting Swedish invention and not of the Ikea variety The company Boda Borg is moving into the Boston area and will offer an experience known as questing a kind of virtual reality that places guests within obstacle courses and other physical and mental challenges These adventures are known as quests and are created for groups of three to five So they re great for families groups of friends team building efforts etc While building on the premise of reality gaming questing requires that users actively participate and immerse themselves as they navigate through mazes traps puzzles secret passages and other lifelike adventures Quests are themed and can virtually take place anywhere from outer space to an Escape from Alcatraz type setting The offerings at any one location periodically change ensuring endless new experiences for every return visit Though this Malden location will be Boda Borg s first center this side of the Atlantic the company was founded in the mid 1990s and currently operates seven questing centers in Sweden and one in Ireland The Malden location will soon be followed by a

    Games franchise but it s no stranger to critically acclaimed TV Mad Men and Orange is the New Black are both Lionsgate productions Telltale Games has emerged as a leader in developing episodic narrative gaming content including the hit games The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones based on the TV shows In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Telltale Games CEO Kevin Bruner described the Super Show concept A Super Show episode combines one part of interactive playable content with one part of scripted television style content Both pieces when combined together are what make an actual Super Show episode As we ve been developing the series we re using both mediums in concert to deliver our story Developing both aspects simultaneously is key to utilizing this new medium Both parts are first class citizens during the writing and design process It s not an interactive series with a show or a TV show with a game but a story integrated in a way that only Telltale can do For us it s a very natural evolution of the interactive story telling expertise we ve pioneered The first Super Show will be an original product developed with an as yet unnamed world class creative partner The format is particularly interesting because each viewer can consume the format however they choose Bruner explains Each Super Show episode the interactive game and the scripted episode will be released as a package designed so that you can consume the interactive portion or watch the scripted show portion in any order you d like For instance if you play the interactive episode first certain elements of the scripted episode portion will be tailored to reflect some choices made in your interactive play through If you watch the show before playing some elements in the
